Chapter 1039: Marcus and Mystia

Chapter 1039: Marcus and Mystia

Continuing to maintain a neutral expression as Mystia explained the reason why he hadn't been given the position of Guardian yet now that they were in the Mystic Plane, Valyr's expression could not help but falter the moment Mystia began to shout.

'Am... am I perhaps dreaming?' With his eyes slightly widened in disbelief, the young man closed his eyes for a bit as he thought that what he'd witnessed just now was merely a hallucination or an illusion of sorts.

Unfortunately for the young man, Mystia's personality taking on a 180 degree shift was as true as it could be, seeing as the voice that responded back to her carried the same tone.

"You could've asked nicely, you know?! It's not like I can't hear your nagging voice all over the Mystic Plane!"

"Oh, I'm nagging, you say?" At those words, Mystia's expression soured. "I'm here working my ass off to improve this plane for the better, yet you're saying I'm nagging?"

"That's right. What are you gonna do about it?" replied the voice, now sounding like they were moving closer to both Valyr and Mystia.

"Plus, are you really helping improve the Mystic Plane for the better? Wouldn't this person just grab some Mystic Energy and leave like the other ones you brought so far?"

"I'm telling you they're my disciples. Disciples." At this point of their conversation, Valyr had no choice but to accept that he was witnessing a side of Mystia that people rarely saw, inwardly letting out a faint sigh as he continued to remain silent.

"Disciples or not, it would be nice if you could bring someone that would actually be able to contribute in the improvement of this plane."

As those words echoed throughout the area, Valyr and Mystia were finally greeted by the sight of the being that had been talking with the latter all this time.

With the young man silently listening in to the conversation between the two all this time, Valyr already imagined what this being named Marcus would look like, feeling like the man would be donning on a set of clothes that seemed fitting for a ballroom party.

However, in reality, Marcus looked vastly different in contrast to his expectations, seemingly only wearing a pair of gray shorts that aptly covered his private parts.

Other than that, the man didn't wear anything else, instead showing off the various muscles all over his body for everyone to see, all of them honed and pushed to their very limits.

Because of that, the young man found it slightly off-putting that such a body was attached to an amiable-looking face, a face sporting a head of dark brown hair and a pair of dark brown eyes.

Though, as he continued to look at the being before them, Valyr noticed that the man's hair began to give off an iridescent color after some time, wondering if it was the light of the Mystic Plane doing all of that.

While Valyr was continuing to intently look at the man from head to toe, Marcus had a slight frown on his face as he looked back at Mystia with a slight sigh.

"I have a few questions. Also, this isn't part of the bit anymore." "Yeah, I know."

"Why'd you bring this guy with you? Is this guy another one of those 'disciples' of yours?"

As Marcus pointed at Valyr, Mystia slightly shook her head as she replied, "He is... but he's different from the other ones I've brought to you so far."

"Remember how you've been always asking me to look for a person that could act as the Guardian of this plane?"

"Yeah?" Marcus raised his eyebrow before nodding. "I did say that having a Guardian on board would make the expansion of the Mystic Plane easier. Plus, it would allow us to comfortably accommodate more people who could dabble in Mystic Energy."

"Well..." In response, Mystia shifted her gaze towards Valyr, prompting Marcus to shift his gaze towards the young man as well.

Silently looking at the young man with a hint of confusion on his face, Marcus eventually connected the dots in his mind as he looked back at her in slight disbelief. "Wait... you're telling me he's going to be the Mystic Plane's Guardian?"

"You do know our plane is constantly up against Legends and Myths, no?" said the man not long after, causing Valyr's impression of the man to change as he listened to their conversation. "Would he be able to handle them?"

"Of course, don't get me wrong," continued Marcus, feeling a slight headache coming up. "I appreciate all of the work you've done for the plane so far. Out of all the Saintesses I've worked with, you're the most hardworking out of all of them."

"With that being said, I also know that you have a keen eye for talent. However, even if this guy right here can fight against Legends at the peak of Rank 4, would he be able to handle Pseudo-Myths?"

"Or better yet, would he be able to handle actual Myths?"

"I'm not saying this because I aim to downplay the effort you've put in so far," said Marcus as he looked at both Mystia and Valyr. "However, the Guardian is exposed to the most danger inside a plane. You know that as well as I do, Mystia."

At this point, Valyr's initial impression of Marcus had entirely disappeared, instead thinking

of the man as someone who had the tendency to look out for others.

With that, he decided that it was his turn to respond to the man's words, interrupting their conversation with his words.

"I've already been informed beforehand of the dangers."

Whoosh!

As those words left the young man's mouth, Valyr unleashed his aura to its very limits, causing the surroundings to briefly warp as if it were responding to the young man's strength. Naturally, Marcus was left at a loss for words by the sight, not expecting that the young man's strength was even greater than the best-case scenario he'd come up with.

Then again, Mystia was surprisingly also left at a loss for words, even though she'd been keeping an eye on the young man's feats for quite some time.

Noticing the look of disbelief on Mystia's face, Marcus decided to send her a private message through the system's chat feature. "Don't tell me you didn't expect this level of strength from him? You're the one who brought him to this place, no?"

"I already knew that he had the strength to fight against Rank 5 Epics and Legends without a problem," replied Mystia, her gaze remaining affixed on the young man's aura. "However, don't you think his aura is already close to approaching that level?"

"I know. That's the reason why I was surprised," sent Marcus through another message. "After all, it's not too difficult for someone at the peak of Rank 4 to surmount a gap of one class rank with enough effort. Even geniuses are expected to do that."

"But two? Only the most genius among geniuses are able to do that, even though only rarely."

'Hmm... I guess I should show more strength to them. Show my sincerity in a way.' Oblivious to the back and forth messaging that was going on between Marcus and Mystia, Valyr felt that the gazes the two were giving him were more inquisitive than appreciative. Coming to the conclusion that it was a hidden test of sorts to see if he was truly fit for the position of Guardian, the young man went ahead and activated some of the stat boosting skills in his arsenal, causing his aura to ascend to the level the two were previously talking

about.

"[Limit Break: Second Verse]."

"[First Encore]."

"[Refined Offense Aura]."

"[Refined Defense Aura]."

Whoosh!

With the young man's race having changed all of his skills that use mana to now mainly use Prime Azure Energy, Valyr initially thought that he wouldn't experience the 20% boost to his

skills' efficacy anymore.

Fortunately, the system seemingly took this into consideration during the ascension process, allowing this effect to remain as it made it permanent through one of his race's innate skills.

Because of that, what were originally a pair of skills that boosted his stats by 25%, now boosted his stats by 30%, only for it to be pushed a couple notches higher with the help of both [Refined Offense Aura] and [Refined Defense Aura].

'Speaking of which, I could also activate the Void concept to boost the skills even further,' thought the young man to himself as he recalled the [Phases of the Azure Primacy] skill.

'However, I don't think I need to go that far just yet.'

Swoosh!

At the very instant Valyr pushed his strength one notch further with the help of some of the stat boosting skills in his arsenal, both Mystia and Marcus had looks of excitement on their faces as they moved closer to the young man.

"Why didn't you tell me you had the strength to fight against Myths?" said Mystia as she looked at the young man with gleaming eyes.

"I mean, you did tell me I'd mostly be fighting against those around my rank," replied Valyr, letting his aura billow throughout the surroundings as he shrugged his shoulders. "Because of that, I didn't really need to disclose that information."

"As you should, really." Marcus nodded in agreement, even though he still continued to grin.

"Anyways, I should apologize for talking about you like that earlier. Neither I nor Mystia truly meant what we said in our earlier conversation. It's how we usually greet each other after not meeting for a long time."

"I don't mind... though it is weird that that's how you two greet each other," said Valyr in response, glancing at Mystia to see that she was nodding in agreement with Marcus' words.

"In any case, I presume you're the Overseer of the Mystic Plane, then?"

"That would indeed be me." Marcus nodded in response. "Did Mystia really ask you to

become the Guardian of the Mystic Plane?"

"Well... I initially came to her to improve my Mystic Energy," clarified the young man. "But to

cut a long story short... yeah. I accepted to become both her disciple and the Mystic Plane's

Guardian."

"You're not gonna regret becoming her disciple. Also, glad to have you on board," said Marcus in response, only to then cover the young man's body in a thick layer of Mystic

Energy.

"With the power vested in me, I, Marcus, the Overseer of the Mystic Plane, now bestow upon

you the position of Guardian of the Mystic Plane."

Whoosh!

At the very moment Marcus finished his words, a series of notifications began to resound throughout the young man's mind, prompting the young man to focus on the sensations happening all over his body as he felt his strength undergo rapid improvement.

On the other hand, Marcus had a smile on his face as he watched Valyr undergo the process of

being accepted by the Mystic Plane as its Guardian, only for him to be left at a loss for words as various changes began to happen throughout the Mystic Plane at the same time.
