Chapter 670 Tian Xingyun Doubt - Second Half
Tian Xingyun glared daggers at Envy but quickly let out a sigh. "Sigh! If you came here just to annoy me, you've succeeded. Now shoo, shoo," Tian Xingyun said, waving her hand dismissively as if shooing away a stray dog.
Seeing Tian Xingyun's exasperation, Envy chuckled. "What I mean is… if you're calling yourself dirty because you're not a maiden anymore, then what about me and Greed… or even Penthesilea, who's pregnant with his child right now?"
"What do you mean?" Tian Xingyun asked, narrowing her eyes.
"You haven't even socialized with them, have you? That's not good. Aren't we supposed to be sisters?" Envy asked, sitting across from Tian Xingyun in the gazebo.
"Who do you think I am? Of course, I socialize with them. I just don't like prying into other people's pasts or their secrets," Tian Xingyun retorted.
Envy chuckled again, amused by Tian Xingyun's defensive tone. "Huhu… I'm just teasing you. What I'm trying to say is… Danny doesn't care about our past. What matters is the present."
Envy reached out and gently clasped Tian Xingyun's hand, which rested on the tea table.
"Even if the past catches up to you… we'll help you fend it off. Or eliminate it entirely. You don't need to worry about that. Besides, this is the modern day, not the feudal period. Maidenhood doesn't define a happy marriage anymore, and Daniel doesn't care about it either," Envy reassured her.
The Empress didn't respond immediately. She simply looked at Envy, then turned her gaze toward the horizon. After a moment of silence, she finally spoke.
"Yeah… maybe I needed to hear that. Thank you."
Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper, but Envy heard it clearly.
"You're welcome" Envy said with a warm smile.
— Morning —
The news broadcast featured a declaration by the Crown Prince of the Qing Empire. The screen displayed the grand Qing Empire Imperial Palace, where the Crown Prince stood dressed in yellow imperial robes, traditionally reserved for the Emperor. The sight left the reporters in the live conference room in awe and raised countless questions.
Where was Emperor Tianhao Wenzhong? Why was the Crown Prince dressed in the attire of an Emperor? Had the Crown Prince usurped the throne?
"Greetings, my beloved people and our brave soldiers! The tragedy at the border of our great Qing Empire and our comrades-in-arms, North Korea, is an event we must never forget," the Crown Prince began his speech with solemnity, his tone heavy with grief and determination.
"The atrocity of using orbital bombardment—an advanced weapon akin to nuclear devastation—has mercilessly eradicated the brave soldiers of our glorious empire. Such a weapon is the hallmark of cowardice…" He continued, his voice rising as he emphasized his indignation.
For over an hour, the Crown Prince delivered an impassioned speech, filled with grandeur and rhetoric. Beneath the oratory flourishes and lots of soup in those speech, the core message was as followed:
"Using orbital bombardment is a cowardly act, an atrocity comparable to deploying nuclear weapons, an action that must be condemned. If New Atlantis is not made up of cowards, then they should face us directly, without resorting to weapons of mass destruction!"
— Elpis - Daniel's Residence —
In front of the TV, Daniel sat with his family, watching the broadcast. Envy, Greed, Koyuki, Penthesilea, Pride, and even Michaela stared at the screen with expressions of disbelief, as though they were watching an utter fool.
"Is this guy for real?" Pride asked, her tone flat as she crossed her arms. Having relocated to Elpis with her father, she found the speech particularly grating.
"Yeah, sometimes you meet people like this, so full of themselves they think the whole world revolves around them," Envy added with a roll of her eyes.
"But I think, this time, they're just trying to gaslight their people that losing to use is not their fault. It's because we use cowardly tactics. The Qing Empire always has a strong stance for all this time. They need to try to gaslight their people like this to control their people to not lose their faith in the government." Envy explains. Then, noticing Daniel's pensive expression, she furrowed her brow.
"That face… Don't tell me you're actually considering what that idiot just proposed?" Envy questioned, she frowned with concern.
Daniel turned to her, raising a hand to pacify her before responding. "I know it sounds like a ridiculous idea, but hear me out…"
"You do know that this is just the Qing Empire trying to gaslight their own people to let their people know that they are not losing because it's their fault, right?" Envy asked
"And as long as we didn't reciprocate their provocation and let them recover some of their face, this senseless war will end." She pressed
"I think as much, but in case it's not. Can you hear me out?" Daniel tries to persuade her.
"No," Envy interrupted immediately. "It's a bad idea. You're not seriously planning to let your soldiers face the Qing Empire's thirty million troops, are you? Even with power armor, their sheer numbers would overwhelm us!"
Daniel gave her a knowing look. "Who said anything about letting our soldiers handle them?"
"Huh?" Envy blinked, confused. "If you're not using the soldiers, then what are you…" She froze mid-sentence, now… she realized. "Oh no… Don't tell me you're planning to…"
"Exactly," Daniel said, cutting her off. "I'll let Prime handle them. If he's the one taking care of their forces, we can achieve our goals without appearing as barbaric as they claim."
At this point, Daniel knew that the victory had already been in the bag.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
The point is to show the world that New Atlantis is not brutal and barbaric as they claimed to be. Even though killing millions would still be a lot of casualties in the war, but…. who told them to invade New Atlantis, right? That's just legitimately self-defense. If they didn't retreat or surrender and get killed for it, it's the enemy's fault, not theirs.
"Er… let me ask you agian. You are going to let a super A.I. that hates humans kill a bunch of humans?" Envy asks, feeling a little bit ridiculous at Daniel's idea.
