Chapter 31: Drafted Into The Death Squad
Chapter 31: Drafted Into The Death Squad
"These guys are really out to get you" Leon's voice resounded as he stared glumly at a piece of paper in his hand.
It read
"Arian Finley, third luitenant commander of the Tamlin hunter group. Due to the current situation of our campaign against the blood serpent clan, we are forced to seek more man power. As such, we would like to invite you to join the "Death Corp team" in the Mission to retrieve our honorable young master Fryan.
Signed by
Commander Alaric
This was a big problem, it was just yesterday Leon found out that the world traversing serpent was destroyed, and now today Arian was being drafted to join the attacking party? There was definitely something to it.
"I don't think we have a choice, do we?" Leon said in a calm voice. If they refused, it would immediately cause issues, especially with the Dalriss family members. They could even place them under arrest.
"I know" Arian looked like she was in deep thought. She knew there was a massive scheme in the shadow. The death squad was not only one of the most powerful squads in the tamlin group, it was also the squad with the highest mortality rates.
Getting drafted into this squad was synonymous with signing your death certificate. Even Arian at this point thought running away wasn't too bad of an idea.
However, that was impossible because.....
—Whoop
The covering to her tent flapped open, and four heavily armored men stepped into the room.
"Miss Arian Finlay, your presence is needed at the death squad main tent" one of the heavily armed men announced to Arian. Armed to the teeth with a commanding voice, and this was supposed to be an invitation?
"Okay..... I will come along with you" Arian responded with some struggle. Naturally, she didn't like this situation, but she knew that there was Nothing she could do.
And not long after, she and Leon were made to walk in front of the heavily armed men through the encampment. It was like they were prisoners being transported. It was embarrassing.
Soon enough, they happened upon a section of the camp at the very edge of the encampment, this place covered entirely with tents made from pitch-black cloth. Its atmosphere was eerie as the place looked like it was completely devoid of humans.
"There" one of the heavily armed guards announced, in front of them was a massive tent, it wasn't as big as the main tent, but it was pretty close. This place seemed to be important...
—Whoop
One of the guards stepped forward and opened up the tent, allowing Arian and Leon to enter.
"Ah? Bloodlust?" As soon as Leon stepped foot in the room, he felt an aura far too familiar to him.
Bloodlust
It was actually normal to feel bloodlust from a place like this hunter camp, after all, all of them had killed one time or the other. This one was different, though. It wasn't emitting from a person alone. It felt like the place was contaminated by this kind of aura from people constantly releasing it in here.
"Hmp!!!"
While Leon was trying to get the feel of the place, a voice sounded, drawing his attention to the front of the tent.
There an aged figure with silky long black hair could be seen seated on a throne chair made of rusty iron. His face looked twisted and malevolent, and the aura he emitted was in prefect unison with the bloodlust in the room.
"You should learn to keep your dirty pet in chains more often, else they will start believing themselves to be equal to you."
The man in the main seat said causally while fiddling with a coin. Even though it seemed like he didn't care and was just advising Arian.
In the next second, chains miraculous found their way around Leon's arms and legs. Looking to the side, he realized that Arian was the one responsible for this action.
She had a look of caution on her face and gently shook her head, indicating that Leon should not complain.
The man in front of them was commander Alaric. One of the most ruthless commanders in the entire tamlin group. He was well known for being the man with the most kills in the entire group, this was exempting the number of troops of the tamlin group he had killed with his own hands.
He was especially impulsive, that was why Arian cuffed Leon so fast. Who knows? He might decide to kill Leon on a whim.
"Hmm good, it's best we keep these dirty animals in their place." Commander Alaric said before lifting his eyes to stare at Arian.
His eyes were still filled with nonchalance, but Arian knew that whatever this was, it would not end great.
"Finlay child....do you know how many men have died because of you?" The commander asked.
"Sire? What do you mean?" Arian replied with a question.
"I'm talking about the number of troops in the death squad that have fallen chasing the blood serpent clan because you lost the Dalriss boy....do you think because we are called the death squad, then by divine providence we must enjoy seeing our brothers die?" This time, the tone of the commander changed from one of nonchalance to one of annoyance.
Clearly he didn't like being the one to clean up Arians mess. She lost a member of the Dalriss family and his squad had to find the boy. It was annoying.
"I....." Arian didn't know what to say. It was true, she was at fault for what happened, and the death squad shouldn't be responsible. But then again, it was fruitless for her to go on a wild goose chase.
After all, she knew for a fact that Fryan Dalriss was deader than dead.
"Hmp!! Anyway, the good news is that we found them. They were last seen heading towards heaven devourer mountain, I assume they are heading to blood rock" after finishing those words, the commander's eyes trailed unto Leon.
"You and your prisoner are to get ready and follow us while we go fix your mess and hopefully rescue the Dalriss boy"
It was precisely what Leon was thinking, these guys were already on the blood serpent clan's trail and wanted Arian and Leon there, so they could capture or kill them immediately if they found out that they were lying.
"Take them back, we leave tomorrow" with an evil sly smile on his face the commander directed.
