CHAPTER 16
"Oh well, I know you would come," Macy replied nonchalantly.

"What?!" Jade exclaimed. "Were you even listening to me?"
"Honestly no, I stopped listening when you said you travelled several kilometres," Macy teased her.
"MACY!"
"Stop screaming my name like that, girl. Hahaha."
"Right, it's funny to you."
"Pff, chill babe. I was kidding. Please try. It is important, there are some documents I need your signature for and stuff."
"You can just send them over."
"Jade!"
"Okay, okay!" she said with a sigh. She couldn't argue with Macy, not now or her brain would get a nice ache. "Fine, I was already planning on going grocery shopping anyway. I would drop by the office first before shopping. Happy now?"
"Yes, you are the best. Thanks, mauh!" She made a show with her lips, giving Jade an invincible kiss. "Have a wonderful longtime, first night in Star Cross City."
"Thanks, goodnight."
Jade ended the call and dropped her phone to her side. Her chest heaved up and down slowly as she took in a deep breath and slowly released it.
"Looks like I have my day sorted out for me. I really need a steamy bath to get this stress off." Jade lamented to herself, got up and made her way to her bedroom.
**********
As the sun rose up in the city and the cocks crowed, waking and alerting everyone to get ready for another day
Somewhere in the city, in one of the big mansions, a young man sat in a room with his laptop sitting atop the big desk in front of him.
His shiny black hair dropped messily over his face, covering his eyes. His eyes had dark circles underneath them and looked heavy. Clearly, it was obvious he lacked any sleep all through the night.
The room was particularly spacious and free, save for the bookshelves at the left side of the room and a chair sitting across the young man with some other office related stuff.
He had his eyes peeled on the work in front of him, as his finger typed away on his laptop.
Ring! Ring!
He averted his gaze from his laptop to the phone on the desk close to his hands. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the caller's picture. Without wasting time, he picked it up and answered the call.
"This had better be good."
"Is there any way to greet a friend good morning, Xan?"
"What is good about the morning, Jay, huh?" Xander yelled at his friend through the phone.
"Hey, easy up, Cranky boss. Looks like someone had an all-night duty, hehe." Jay chuckled at his friend's outburst.
"If I wasn't busy staying up all night to clean the mess you made, then I wouldn't be this cranky."
"Okay, okay. I have apologized a thousand times already, Xan. I am sorry."
"Sorry is not good enough, if sorry could fix everything in this world, then why do we have laws and police and judges…"
He went on talking and Jay just rolled his eyes at his friend's absurd way of handling his stress.
"Are you listening to me?" Xander asked, his irritation rising up by the minute.
"Yes, yes, I am." Jay lied. Of course, he wasn't paying Xander any attention. Who would want to listen to an outburst from a cranky boss when he was busy enjoying himself?
Xander knew he wasn't paying him any attention and only confirmed it when he heard a soft voice from the other end of the phone.
"Ahh…baby umm let's continue. I'm getting bored." The owner of the voice continued to speak, clearly ignoring who it was, Jay was on the phone with and began rubbing her hand on his chest, going down.
"Shit!" Jay cursed and pushed the girl's hand away.
"Jay!" Xander called out, letting a deep growl escape his throat, threatening his friend.
Jay gulped, he knew he was a goner. Xander hated being called when Jay was having fun with one of his flings.
"Xander, that's not what it was," he lied and quickly left the bed, moving to his living room, away from the temptress that was going to put him in trouble.
"Oh really," A sinister smile spread across his lips the moment a thought came into his mind. "I do not have time, Jay. State what it is and await your punishment."
Xander informed his friend with his deep voice, laced with laughter, making Jay shiver at what thought ran through his mind.
"I wouldn't call now unless it was important. I just found out from the girls that a new gang arrived in the city and now owns a big night club at West Star Road. We weren't informed, nor did they come to see you first."
"Where are they from?" Xander asked, interjecting his sentence.
"I don't know much. I would look into it and get the details for you, but I think Anders are investors as well."
"Anders? What are they doing? Don't they have their city?!" Xander hollered into the phone.
Jay had to remove the phone from his ears, lest his eardrum exploded because of his friend.
"Calm down. All these are just bits from the girls. You see why I told you to come to the club yesterday night. Perhaps we could have gotten more info." Jay couldn't help but nag at his friend.
They just didn't listen to him and thought he always loved fooling around but that's where he gets hints on some spooky stuff going on.
"Are you stupid or what? Do I sound like someone who had time to throw away in a club full of girls?"
For the umpteenth time, Xander bellowed at Jay. He was really irritated by Jay's behaviour on riling him up.
"Besides, what do we have you there for? Why do I need to be available when you can go there and get the information?"
True, Xander had a point and Jay couldn't refute his statement and just sighed.
"I understand, Xan. Take a joke once in a while. You really need it."
"It is because I haven't sent your punishment over that you can still talk, huh?"
"Hehhee, I was just joking. Have to go, bye. Enjoy your morning and please don't come to the company with such a temper. You would scare all your employees," Jay pleaded jokingly.
"If anyone annoys me, then they get what's coming."
Before Jay could say anything else, Xander cut the call on him.
Beep!
'Bossy overgrown urgh, Xan! Just thinking about the so-called punishment gives me the chills.'
~~~~~~
{Hahha... Poor Jay. If only he knows the punishment awaiting him. Can you guess?}
