Book 6: Chapter 30: Mister Chen Has a Rudimentary Understanding of a Thing or Two
“Master, I’m back!” Chen Heng called out as he entered, carrying groceries.
Having someone waiting at home felt wonderful.
“You’re back? Why are you alone? I thought your senior sister went to fetch you,” Fu Hua inquired from the sofa, where she’d been meditating, when she saw Chen Heng return alone.
“Senior Sister? She went to recapture a target with Rita. That target escaped again. But don’t worry, Master. She’ll be back before dinner without any issues.”
“That’s good, Little Heng. So, what did you buy?”
“Just some ordinary ingredients. I’m planning to cook XXXX tonight,” Chen Heng replied, placing the ingredients in the kitchen.
“Little Heng, you can cook?”
“I can. I once bought a mid-tier cooking skill from the Dimension Administrators Association store to care for Sirin. Don’t underestimate that mid-tier cooking—just mid-tier already places me at the apex of ordinary chefs. Relax, Master; I’ll handle dinner tonight.”
“Alright, then.” Fu Hua trusted the skills sold by the Dimension Administrators Association. Anything could be bought with the right amount of points, and quality was assured.
With a nod, she resumed meditating. What a cultivation maniac!
Upon seeing Fu Hua’s dedication, Chen Heng felt a pang of guilt.
Since becoming a cultivator, he rarely cultivated, focusing instead on refining Will Energy swords.
He had already mastered 89 sword conceptions from the Chen Clan Sword Technique. However, it was just these 89 sword conceptions. He had not even practiced the Void Sword Technique he had received in exchange for the Void Arts.
Sword conceptions were not easy to cultivate. Right now, Chen Heng was busy forming Will Energy swords. However, once he formed Will Energy swords for all 89 sword conceptions, he could switch to studying sword techniques and also cultivate Spiritual Energy to raise his cultivation realm.
Shortly after Chen Heng finished preparing a few dishes, he washed his hands and headed to the door. There, he found Mo Qingtong about to knock and Raven, who was almost always by her side.
Speaking of which, Chen Heng was genuinely surprised by Raven. Before playing Honkai Impact 3rd, he hadn’t thought much of her. However, after playing the game, he found it uncanny how similar the Raven standing before him looked to the Raven in Honkai Impact 3rd.
Was this some parallel-world thing?
After the world merger, the lore set the two Ravens as blood-related relatives but not siblings.
Chen Heng wasn’t sure if the two Ravens knew of each other’s existence. He knew about this peculiarity due to possessing the settings of the world merger.
The settings of the world merger recorded all the changes that took place after the world merger. Although he hadn’t read through them entirely, he’d skimmed enough.
“Why are you standing there like a fool? Come in.” Chen Heng beckoned to Mo Qingtong, who was still in a knocking posture.
Mo Qingtong smiled foolishly at the apron-clad Chen Heng. Then she guessed what had happened. She knew about Chen Heng’s Absolute Precognition.
Setting aside her intention to knock, she and Elder Sister Raven stepped in.
“Qingtong, take a seat. I’ll finish cooking. There’s a portion for you. Also, this is my master, so be respectful and understand the seniority.”
“Got it.”
“Oh, by the way, Elder Sister Raven, if someone knocks later, please answer. It will likely be my senior sister, Cheng Lixue.”
“Understood, Young Master Heng.”
After giving Mo Qingtong a heads-up, Chen Heng returned to his cooking. He had interrupted his meal preparation earlier only to open the door for Mo Qingtong.
Soon after he finished cooking, a knock sounded. This time, Elder Sister Raven answered the door, revealing Cheng Lixue outside. Standing behind Cheng Lixue was another person, Rita Rossweisse.
When Rita Rossweisse saw Raven, her eyes momentarily widened in surprise, but she quickly regained her composure.
After Raven invited the two in, she kept staring at Rita Rossweisse.
Although Raven didn’t know who Rita Rossweisse was, she felt irritated by the other woman’s presence but couldn’t pinpoint why.
Could their character settings have clashed? The one covered eye, the maid outfit, and the mature air?
“Master, I’m back.”
“Hmm.”
“Rita pays her respects to Madam Fu Hua. I hope Madam Fu Hua has been well?”
“I’ve been good. What brings you here, Rita?”
“I’m merely here on an assignment. I heard Madam Fu Hua was around and wanted to pay my respects. However, it seems I’ve come at an inconvenient time. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave and visit some other day.”
Glancing at Chen Heng bustling in the kitchen, Rita Rossweisse realized dinner preparation time wasn’t the best time to visit.
“You don’t need to leave so soon. If Little Heng likes you, he’ll surely include you in the meal.”
“Huh?”
“Please stay for dinner, Miss Rita. I prepared enough for six people.”
That was how the somewhat bewildered Rita Rossweisse found herself seated at Chen Heng’s dining table.
Rita Rossweisse originally planned to leave after a brief visit with Fu Hua. However, the tantalizing aromas emanating from Chen Heng’s kitchen and the fact it was dinner time made her reconsider. Having worked the entire day without a meal and encouraged by Chen Heng’s invitation, she decided to stay.
During the meal, Chen Heng occupied the host’s seat, not Fu Hua. Upon noticing this, Rita Rossweisse became pensive and shifted her gaze toward Raven seated across from her.
Coincidentally, Raven was also looking at Rita Rossweisse. Their eyes met for a moment before they averted their gazes, both with a hint of disdain.
------
After the meal, Rita Rossweisse did not depart immediately. “Mister Chen Heng, have you considered enrolling at St. Freya Academy? With your academic prowess, you’d surely qualify. Furthermore, as Madam Fu Hua’s disciple, passing the St. Freya Academy’s tests should be easy, right?”
“…Why does everyone want me to attend St. Freya Academy? I’m just an ordinary person with no special combat skills. What I’ve learned from my master are scholarly pursuits and life experiences. As you can see, I only have a rudimentary understanding of swordsmanship. I’m no match for those ability users and Valkyries.”
