Chapter 418: 418: Unexpected Fusion
Chapter 418: Unexpected Fusion
“Wha, what just happened?”
Song Jian looked at the Book of the Abyss in his hand with a sense of bewilderment. A brief blankness appeared in his mind, as if he had forgotten the Abyssal Raging Flame being drawn out of his body just moments ago.
His right hand lifted unconsciously, revealing that the Book of the Abyss was now emitting a Dark Gold light.
“Wasn’t this a quest item? How did it turn into an equipment item?”
After casting another glance at the Book of the Abyss, Song Jian’s face was filled with astonishment. The Book of the Abyss had turned into a Dark Gold Quality special equipment.
Quickly, clarity returned to Song Jian’s eyes, and the events that just transpired replayed in his mind. At this moment, he wanted nothing more than to throw the Book of the Abyss far away. But the system notification that appeared captivated him.
System: You have obtained a special item, the Book of the Abyss. This item requires a blood oath to bind. Please drop a droplet of your blood on the artifact.
System: This artifact is an Abyssal object. After binding, an unknown mutation may occur, which may cause great harm to the binder. Make your choice cautiously.
Reading these two pieces of information, Song Jian briefly fell silent. Yet soon enough, he had made his decision.
The Abyssal Raging Flame was too important to him. If he did not bind the Book of the Abyss, the Abyssal Raging Flame would also leave him.
He cut open his finger with his Crimson Fire Heart Ape Sword, a drop of fresh blood fell onto the Book of the Abyss.
At the moment the blood made contact with the Book of the Abyss, a heavy sigh seemed to emit from the book, the blood was instantly absorbed by it. A red light, akin to a streak of lightning, flashed across the entire book.
System: You have begun the fusion process with the special item, the Book of the Abyss. Please refrain from interrupting the fusion process. Any interruption may result in permanent damage to the Book of the Abyss. The process of merging with the Book of the Abyss was astoundingly simple. Aside from enticing whispers echoing in his ears, Song Jian felt nothing unusual. In fact, it felt more comfortable than when he merged with the Abyssal Flame.
“Merging with the Abyssal Flame? Is it because I have already merged with the Abyssal Flame, that merging with the Book of the Abyss seems so easy?” Song Jian speculated.
The progress bar for merging with the Book of the Abyss proceeded rapidly. In under ten seconds, the system notified Song Jian that the process was completed.
Once merged, the Book of the Abyss vanished. Nonetheless, Song Jian could feel it lying dormant within his body, ready to be summoned at any moment. “Brother Song, Brother Song. Come quickly and look; these monsters dropped tons of equipment!” Wang Qi called out cheerfully to Song Jian, gesturing him over as soon as he saw that Song Jian had returned to his normal state.
Since Song Jian was the sole person responsible for killing these creatures, neither Wang Qi nor the rest of the three members in the group had taken the initiative to pick the loot up. But this obviously did not prevent them from checking out the stats of these items in advance.
Twelve level-twenty white quality, five green quality, three blue quality, and one level-twenty silver quality equipment pieces – this kind of drop rate not only stunned Wang Qi and the others but also ignited envy within their hearts. “Brother Song, do you perhaps have any items that boost your luck?” Wang Qi could not resist asking.
Five monsters, among which only one was a boss, the remaining four were ordinary monsters. Such an extravagant loot drop rate simply made other gamers disheartened.
“It’s not equipment, it’s a title!” Song Jian answered with a laugh.
Equipment could be looted, but titles could not. Even if Song Jian were to be slain, this title couldn’t be taken from him.
Song Jian glanced at a silver quality equipment piece, the Abyssal Leg Guards, a look of joy spread across his face.
He was still using the Tree Spirit Leg Guards he’d equipped from the beginning, a mere level-five equipment. The equipment he’d just gained could replace it at last.
Abyssal Leg Guards (Silver), Leather Leg Guards, required equipment level: 20, Equipment Effect: Defense +11, Resistance +9, Vitality Points +100, Vitality Point Recovery speed +20%, Special effect: Abyssal Demon Breath (Passive), grants the user the Abyssal Demon Breath which reduces all damage by 20%, and decreases the probability of receiving critical hits by 30%. Equipment requirements: level 18, ability to take out of the game: no.
This was another equipment piece possessing the Abyssal Demon Breath. Everything, from the name to its special effect, resembled the “Abyssal Demon Helmet” Song Jian was currently wearing. They might appear to be a set, but unfortunately, the two pieces did not constitute a set, and thus didn’t possess set attributes.
At this moment, the equipment Song Jian wore far exceeded that of other players; most of his equipment was of silver and gold quality. If he were to show off the special effects of his equipment, it would undoubtedly leave many blinded in astonishment.
Having given a cursory glance at the remaining dozen or so items, Song Jian couldn’t find any substitutes.
“Pick whatever’s useful for you guys, and let Wang Qi sell off the rest. Then well split the money equally!” Song Jian said with a grin.
Thanks, Brother Song!” The faces of the four individuals lit up with joy. They were only four levels away from level twenty; it was about time they gathered a set of level twenty equipment.
They bought the equipment they took a fancy to at an internal discounted price. Song Jian collected over a thousand Doomsday Coins, but more equipment was left with Wang Qi. They decided to let Wang Qi sell the items and then divide the money.
The original plan was to unlock the underground bank vault to acquire gold bars that could bring out of the game. They didn’t expect to encounter their mission target, and thereby complete the task assigned by Cecilia.
“Gosh, what a pity! It looks like everything valuable inside the bank was cleaned out long ago!” Tang Rong was still somewhat concerned about the gold that may not have existed at all.
“There might not be anything in the bank, but there’s bound to be plenty of valuable goods in jewelry stores which can also be brought out of the game. If we get a chance, we should search around those places!” Song Jian suggested casually.
“Alright, let’s leave this place.” Song Jian found the exit of the underground wine cellar. Exiting the cellar, the five of them found themselves in the courtyard of a villa.
Roars of mutated zombies were audible from outside the courtyard. This turned out to be a twenty-five level monster zone. After bidding farewell to Wang Qi and the others, the four swiftly took their leave.
Opening the map, Song Jian placed a marker at this location. After all, this was the entrance to the mineral-rich tunnel. If given the chance, Song Jian would undoubtedly return to mine the entire tunnel.
After Song Jian and the others departed, silence descended upon the wine cellar once more. Before long though, the silence was shattered by the sound of crisp shattering.
Suddenly, the altar that had been holding the Book of the Abyss formed a crack. Following that, the echoes of shattering sounds were heard; countless cracks appeared all over the altar. As time passed, the altar disintegrated, turning into fine grains of sand before being blown away by an invisible force.
At the place where the altar had disappeared, a black fissure, the width of a finger, materialized in mid-air. It appeared as though an eye had opened in the sky.
From this black fissure, black flames occasionally spewed out. Waves of black smoke permeated from the fissure, low, monstrous roars eerily echoed from the rift..
