Chapter 2137: Chapter 2138: Falling Out
“Alright, I’ll head back first. A room full of guests are waiting for me to join them,” Li Fengjie said.
“You need to hurry up, though. The people sitting in that room are big shots in the industry. If you make them wait too long, they’re definitely going to be unhappy, and it could even affect you. You understand what I’m saying, right?”
“I know…”
Li Fengjie patted Wang Lu on the shoulder and then left the restroom.
Wang Lu clutched her cellphone tightly, thought for about half a minute more, and still decided to call Wang Ying to come and pick her up.
Although she really aspired to break into the entertainment industry, the thought of the few people sitting at the table filled her with fear.
If nothing went wrong, then fine, but if there was even a slight issue, it would be too late for regrets.
Sigh~~~
With these thoughts in mind, Wang Lu felt a lot more relieved and walked towards the private room with a calm demeanor.
Inside the private room, there were about a dozen people.
Five men, six women, plus Wang Lu, making twelve people in total.
Apart from Li Fengjie, there were two other girls who were Wang Lu’s classmates named Dong Yao and Chen Yufei, both appearing rather naive, which was evident from their clothing and dress.
The remaining three were internet celebrities and models brought by Li Fengjie, with decent looks and figures.
They were dressed more provocatively and boldly.
Of the remaining five men, four had a distinctly artistic look to them.
Either with long hair or a scruffy beard wearing glasses, they looked very different from your average middle-aged men.
The only exception seemed more normal.
He wasn’t particularly burly, wearing a white shirt with the top two buttons undone, revealing half of a tattoo.
He exuded a menacing aura.
The man’s name was Zhao Yongqiang, president of a real estate company in Zhong Hai.
However, unlike other businessmen, Zhao Yongqiang didn’t receive a higher education, having dropped out in the second grade of elementary school to become a little hooligan.
Over the years, through ruthless means, he had slowly established a foothold in Zhong Hai and transformed into a somewhat famous entrepreneur.
The dozen or so people sat together, frequently clinking glasses, creating quite a lively scene.
“Why isn’t Lulu back yet?” Zhao Yongqiang asked with a cigarette in hand:
“The room feels a bit off with one person missing, it’s kind of affecting the drinking mood.”
As the investor of the film, Zhao Yongqiang had a lot of clout.
And at today’s dinner, the person he valued most was Wang Lu.
Unlike the others with their heavy makeup, the more he looked at her, the more he thought she was pure and not like those garish, cheap women.
So during the meal, he paid extra attention to her.
“President Zhao, she’s in the restroom and will be right back,” Li Fengjie said with a chuckle:
“You know how it is with girls, they always need to touch up their makeup when they use the bathroom, but she’ll be quick.”
“That’s true.”
“President Zhao, I’d like to offer you a toast,” proposed Dong Yao, Wang Lu’s senior.
Li Fengjie had mentioned that there were still two roles to be cast in this Zhao Yongqiang-invested movie, one for the third female lead and another for the fourth.
There was just one ranking between them, but the difference in screen time was not to be underestimated.
If lucky, the actress playing the third female lead might become famous and recognized by audiences, but the fourth would not; with just a few lines, she could easily be overlooked as just an extra.
That was why Dong Yao wanted to edge out Wang Lu for the part.
“Let’s drink to that,” said Zhao Yongqiang, not being stingy, lifting his glass.
After all, Dong Yao’s appearance and figure weren’t half bad.
“Thank you, President Zhao, for honoring me with your presence.”
Dong Yao had a good tolerance for alcohol; she drained the glass in one go, quite curious about the effect.
One drink down, Dong Yao poured herself another, intending to offer it to Zhao Yongqiang as a way to curry favor with him.
“President Zhao, thank you for providing the meal today. It’s an honor to meet such an outstanding entrepreneur like you; here’s another toast to you.”
Zhao Yongqiang was over the moon with praise.
That feeling of being complimented and acknowledged was something he’d always pursued.
But at that moment, the private room’s door swung open, and Wang Lu walked in.
“Ah, Lulu’s back.”
Upon seeing Wang Lu enter, Li Fengjie stood up to welcome her.
Consequently, Zhao Yongqiang set his glass down and gazed at Wang Lu, causing Dong Yao’s brows to furrow with rising resentment.
Wang Lu forced a slight smile and sat back down in her chair.
“Come on, I’ve already filled up this glass, just waiting for your return.”
Dong Yao’s expression darkened. The toast she had intended for herself had unexpectedly become a bridal gown for someone else!
“President Zhao, I’m really sorry, but I just can’t drink anymore. Let me drink tea in place of alcohol instead.”
Seeing Wang Lu say she couldn’t drink anymore, Zhao Yongqiang’s face lit up with delight.
This was exactly the outcome he wanted.
“From the beginning, you haven’t drunk much, how could you say you can’t drink?” Zhao Yongqiang said with a smile:
“Let’s drink a bit more. If you drink tea instead of alcohol, then you’re not giving me face.”
“Right, look at President Zhao’s enthusiasm; you ought to drink a little more,” Li Fengjie chimed in.
“Sister Li, if I drink more, I’ll completely lose consciousness; I really can’t drink any more.”n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
With a thought in mind, Wang Lu felt quite resolute.
In such a situation, she absolutely couldn’t afford to lose consciousness.
Zhao Yongqiang’s face shifted subtly as he said evenly:
“Lulu, we had just agreed that the role of the third female lead is basically yours, but as you know, there are plenty of actresses nowadays. Although it’s tentatively set to be you, things can still change. For that role, can’t you drink another glass with me?”
“I really can’t, sorry, President Zhao.”
Slap!
Zhao Yongqiang suddenly smacked the table, making everyone else in the room jump.
They hadn’t expected such an action from him.
“Wang Lu, are you fucking disrespecting me now?” Zhao Yongqiang abruptly dropped his mild demeanor and cursed at Wang Lu:
“I fucking offer you a toast, and you dare refuse? Do you really think you’re some kind of pure, innocent maiden? Today, whether you want to or not, you’re drinking this glass!”
After a moment of panic, Wang Lu calmed down.
It was the first time someone had cursed at her to her face!
“Well, I’m not drinking!”
Wang Lu didn’t back down, “Don’t think you’re something special just because you have a bit of money. I’m not acting in this play. Don’t try to scare me!”
Li Fengjie was terrified.
All these years, she had brought up so many talents, and not one failed to fawn over these big bosses.
But there she was, actually getting into an argument with one!
She must be blind to have brought her here!
“You stupid cunt, think you’re so great, huh?”
Zhao Yongqiang was so angry he could hardly contain it and grabbed an unopened bottle of liquor from the table.
“Drink this bottle, and I’ll let you leave today!”
