Chapter 426 426. Despair drowned the Cadets
Mark and Mei Lin were shocked by the sight before them. They hadn't anticipated the other races would attack so early, nor that their attacks would be this devastating.
"We are doomed!" Mark said, feeling helpless in the face of their current situation.
Many other cadets stood there, looking at the destruction and the other races' spaceships with despair on their faces. They had never imagined they would see such a scene, although they knew they might have to face it five years later. They simply hadn't expected the war to come to them so early.
"What happened?" Elijah, Josh, Tony, and other heads of the alliance came outside, only to witness the apocalyptic cities destroyed by the spaceships. Their attention turned to the spaceships, and they were shocked by the sheer number of them.
"Impossible!" Josh shouted in disbelief. He couldn't fathom how the demons had attacked the Limitless Void—the safest place in all the human domains—without alerting the Ten Seats or the Archons.
Elijah, too, was stunned, but he looked at the scene with a sneer. He had had enough of this world. He didn't care if he survived or not; he just wanted to enjoy the fall of the Limitless Void.
Just then, Luna came running outside, and when she saw the scene, her heart nearly stopped. She couldn't believe the war had arrived so early. They hadn't prepared for it, and worse, they had only received news of it a few days ago. They had been investigating, but it seemed they were too late.
They had only caught wind of the invasion days ago, barely enough time to confirm it, let alone mobilize. But the grim reality was now undeniable: the other races had struck first, catching them off guard and exposing their unpreparedness. The so-called peace treaty had only been a facade—a deception the enemy never intended to honor.
Her hands clenched into fists as she stared at the decimated cities, the sky filled with the relentless barrage of laser fire raining down from the fleet above.
"Everyone, head inside the academy grounds right now!" Luna shouted at every cadet watching the scene. "There's a special protective barrier around the academy that will keep us safe."
The cadets ran in fear. They could fight demons and other races if necessary, but defending against the rain of laser beams was impossible.
"Damn, we're toast! The demons attacked when we're at our most defenseless."
"You're right. We weren't prepared for war, and we didn't even know it was coming."
"I wonder if we'll win this war or not, given that the other races seem to have the upper hand at the moment."
"Damn it, we have to win the war, and we will. There's no option for defeat here."
The cadets hurried to the academy, filled with fear and anxiety. They understood that a surprise attack from the other races would never lead to anything good.
Once all the cadets were safely inside, Luna turned to Elijah and Josh. "Go and activate the protective barrier. I'll stay here and fight," she said, looking up to where she saw around thirty individuals emerging from the academy. They were all instructors, advisors, the Academy Head, Vice Head, and others.
Josh nodded and immediately headed inside, while Elijah stood there watching the chaos.
"Elijah, what are you doing? Let's go!" Josh shouted, seeing Elijah staring blankly into the void.
But Elijah didn't move; he even turned to look at Josh with indifference.
"Damn!" Josh cursed, heading alone to activate the barrier. Though he cared for his friend, he didn't have time for him right now.

Inside the academy, Mark left Mei Lin and began searching for Tracy, but after minutes of looking around, he hadn't found her.
"Where could she be right now?" Mark frowned, checking the time and noting it was only noon. "She should still be in the academy." He began looking through every classroom along the way and eventually found her, along with Erza and Zeref.
"Mark, what happened outside? We heard explosions just a moment ago," Tracy asked, her face anxious. "And why aren't we allowed to leave?"
Mark looked around and saw that everyone here was clueless about what was happening.
"The other races have started their attack on the Limitless Void," he said.
"What? The other races have attacked us?"
"Is this a war?"
"Are we safe here?"
Mark nodded and replied, "Yes, this is a war, and we're safe in the academy. There's a protective barrier around it that shields us from any outside attack."
"So, we should stay here in the academy for now," Mark said.
The cadets in the classroom nodded. Seeing that, Mark sighed and approached Tracy, Erza, and Zeref.
"Where's Big Brother?" Tracy asked immediately as soon as Mark came over.
Mark didn't know how to answer. In all the chaos of the war, he had almost forgotten about Orion and his connection to Tracy.
"He's with Elijah," he said, making up an excuse on the spot. He couldn't risk telling Tracy the truth—not yet. He had decided to restore her memories of him first. After that, she would understand everything, but that would have to wait until the war was over, or at least until he felt comfortable telling her.
"Is he safe?" Tracy asked again.
"He's safe," Mark nodded. "In fact, he's safer than any of us here."
Tracy nodded in relief and calmed down.
Erza asked at that moment, "Have the demons only attacked the Limitless Void, or the three domains too?"
"I don't know," Mark shook his head. "But since they've started this war, we should assume the worst."n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Erza nodded, clenching her fists tightly, worried for her big sister back in the Human Federation Realm.
