Chapter 93. From Internal Mascot To… External Mascot?

During the time Elder Fengyun brought Ren Qingquan to the sect hall, I told him about how the Pure Wave Sect's higher-ups are going to test whether or not he is someone from the Gui family.

From how I see it, this one is a breeze. Because Ren Qingquan's mother is 100% someone from said family. It's because I've seen the Gui family mentioned in the cultivation method and magical techniques his mother sent.

As for the part where the Pure Wave Sect's higher-ups think Ren Qingquan is the investment from said family. I am not too sure about it.

After all, he accidentally entered the sect using the teleportation formation located in the Martial Arts world. The whole thing feels more like an accident rather than an investment.

Upon arriving at the sect hall, Ren Qingquan immediately bowed to everyone there as a greeting. 

Those people also nodded. Then, the Sect Master immediately gets to the point. "Ren Qingquan, I heard from someone you've learned a powerful defensive magical technique. Do you mind showing me that technique?"

As he already learned about the Sect Master's reason through me, Ren Qingquan nodded and immediately circulated his spirit qi following the Super Duper ... Turtle Shield Technique and activated it.

Upon seeing the barrier crafted using that technique, Sect Master and some of the higher-ups stood up and knocked on it lightly. Then, I heard them discussing their mental connection.

"From the form and energy circulation in the shield, it indeed seems like the one coming from that technique."

Peak Master Tumultuous Wave nodded along while gritting his teeth and telling a story. "I agree, I won't ever forget the aura of this turtle shell technique. When I was young, I met a member of the Gui family who stood next to a spirit plant that would soon bloom while activating this shield. Around her, there are at least ten other cultivators at the same cultivation stage, including me. We worked together to break her shield for a whole hour until all of us painted like a dog. Meanwhile that Gui family member happily slept inside the barrier. When that spirit plant finally bloomed, she picked it up and casually left."

Peak Master Tumultuous Wave's story seems to open a dam as a few others also complained about their encounter with a Gui family member.

While the other higher-ups are busy comparing their misery, The Sect Master asked Ren Qingquan another probing question. "I know what's the name of your magical technique?" 

Ren Qingquan answered the technique's full name. "It is called the Super Duper Ultra Hyper Mega Strong Turtle Shell Technique."

The Sect Master nodded and continued. "Aren't you curious why I asked you about the name of your skill and ask you to activate the defensive skill?" 

"Hmm? Not really?" Ren Qingquan shook his head lightly while thinking. 'System already told everything about it.'

Meanwhile, the sect higher-ups seem to have misunderstood Ren Qingquan's answer.

"With how disinterested he looks, Ren Qingquan seems to have known about this. He is most likely indeed sent by the Gui family as an investment to our sect." One of the higher-ups of the Pure Wave Sect said.

"Mhm, although Ren Qingquan's luck is a bit too huge. Actually, it is simply inhuman even for someone from the Gui family. But perhaps he is some kind of ultra rare mutated type?" When Peak Master Xue said that, the others nodded along.

One of them agreed. "Well, what my junior sister said is indeed possible. The Gui family has studied luck much longer than us. Who knows what kind of freak they can create."

Then all of them heard the Sect Master say while smiling at Ren Qingquan. "Well, it seems you already knew. Anyway, you've reached the Nascent Soul stage at such a young age, which shows your potential. So, as the Sect Master, I'll grant you the title as our sect's foreign affair elder."

While the Sect Master is talking, I heard the other higher-ups discussing among themselves through a mental connection.

One of them asked. "What the hell is foreign affairs elder? Do we ever have that kind of job in the sect?"

"I don't know. But let's just hear what the Sect Master is going to say."

While they were busy talking, the Sect Master continued. "Your task will be to plan and make preparation for any external event that's held in our sect. Of course you don't need to do everything yourself. I'll place some Golden Core disciples as your subordinates later. Furthermore, except when our sect is going to hold an event, you're free to do what you want most of the time."

"Ohhh, it is an upgrade from his previous senior brother title. So, will this foreign affair elder be our face for an external event?"

"As expected of the Sect Master. If the other forces knew the Gui family had invested their family members in our sect, our Pure Wave Sect could easily gain many new allies. After all, the Gui family's investment almost never fails. Following after their path is almost a guaranteed win."

"Yeah, as expected of the Sect Master, he is incredibly thoughtful. No wonder he is the one chosen as the Sect Master." This is said by the fattest cultivator among the higher-ups.

After giving him that title, I saw the Sect Master say a few more things before giving him an identity jade and allowing Ren Qingquan to leave.

Before leaving, Ren Qingquan bowed to Peak Master Xue and Tumultuous Wave. "Ren Qingquan thanks the two peak masters for their help yesterday."

"Mhmm." Both of them nodded. 

When Ren Qingquan reached the door, I heard Peak Master Xue speak to the other higher-ups through their mental connection. "So... Will I and senior brother Tumultuous Wave rub some of his luck from helping him? How about we start a round of gambling and test it?" 

The others just stare speechlessly without replying to Peak Master Xue.

Once Ren Qingquan returned to his cave, fatty disappeared from the square in front of his cave residence.

He then entered his cave and lay on his bed to rest. That's when I heard him ask me a question. 'System, I think people will start attacking me if I decide to go outside. But I don't think five subsystem hosts are enough.'

Hmm? Why does he suddenly mention this?

While I am confused, Ren Qingquan continued. 'Can't I look for some hosts from my house?'

I think I understood what Ren Qingquan planned. 

To activate [Anchor] and grant someone with my skill, I need them to be within the range of Ren Qingquan's [Scan]. But right now, the skill [Scan] already gained the ability to change shapes.

Which means I can elongate it and move it around. Transforming the initially spherical [Scan] into a cylindrical one with Ren Qingquan on one end and then spinning it around just like the hand on a clock.

The main problem comes from the fact that [Scan]'s malleability is quite limited. All I can do is turn the initially 5km radius spherical [Scan] to a 500m radius cylindrical shape at most, which is only slightly more than 650 Kilometers in length.  

If the amount of people granted with Lv 4 subsystems increased too much within such a small area. I am afraid there will be some leftover clues that will make the area around the Pure Wave Sect to be extremely suspicious.

The whole reason Ren Qingquan tried to escape from the observation of the Pure Wave Sect's higher-ups before is to leave as little clue that can point to him when the whole subsystem matter somehow got found out.

I won't underestimate the Pure Wave Sect's ability to find that kind of abnormality. So, I replied to Rent Qingquan.

[It is indeed possible. But the distance that Scan can reach right now is still quite limited, even after including its ability to change shape. The distance is still located near the territory of the Pure Wave Sect.]

Ren Qingquan said. 'Well, how about I add 5 more subsystem hosts with lv 4 subsystems. I want to make the amount of subsystem hosts reach a whole 10, which is much nicer to look at.'

I wanted to roll my eyes, but after I thought about it, 5 more should be alright, so I agreed.

[Alright, but System recommended the host to spread them as far as possible from each other.]

Ren Qingquan nodded. 'I know, I know. Then, System, activate [Scan] and make it elongate as far as possible. Then, mark the position of cultivators at Golden Core stags.'

I followed his word and elongated my [Scan]. Then, I begin rotating the [Scan] with Ren Qingquan as its center. Right now, the system map basically looks like those green radar screens found in movies. Everytime [Scan] detects something with Golden Core level energy, it will be marked on the map.

Ren Qingquan then selected five random Golden Core stage cultivators with subsystems containing [Scan]. Once we are sure those cultivators don't come from the Pure Wave Sect, he upgraded their subsystem to level 4 and granted them with a system screen.

After he was done, Ren Qingquan then continued to lay on his bed while thinking. 'System, have you found an animal suitable to be placed in my Exp farm?'

[System has several candidates ready. Furthermore, the System has found a suitable item called a Love Stone that should be able to increase the breeding rate of spirit beasts.]

Ren Qingquan nodded and went to check the things I mentioned. 

While he was checking the function of the love stone, I scanned Ren Qingchen and the list of animals I recommended. He can feel someone knocking on his door once more.

Ren Qingquan went out of his cave residence and saw his Third Uncle standing there.

Third Uncle quickly spoke. "I heard from Fatty Zhang that you've reached the Nascent Soul stage. If your father knew you're this amazing, he definitely would've talked about you to everyone he met for at least a whole month."

Third uncle then brought a wooden box filled with meat. From the energy on it, that meat seems to come from a Body Tempering stage beast. "Anyway, I've come here to share with you some meat I got from the Spirit Beast Peak I got accepted to."

Ren Qingquan curiously asked. "What kind of meat is this?"

"Pure Water Frog meat." After answering, Third Uncle continued with an annoyed face. "Since the last few days, there is a Spirit Locust plague in the Alchemy Peak's spiritual garden which has eaten many of the spirit plants. They borrowed some Pure Water Frog from the Spirit Beasts Peak to kill the Spirit Locusts. Due to getting too much food, the Pure Water From started to get comfortable and begin crazily mating. Right now, the Spirit Beasts peak has too much Pure Water Frog. Since the last few days, I've been eating Frog meats for every meal."

When Ren Qingquan heard Third Uncle's words, he got excited. "Then, uncle. Can you give me some of the living Pure Water Frog and the Spirit Locusts?"

Third Uncle pinched his chin and answered. "I don't know why you would want a living one. But, alright, I'll bring you to the Alchemy Peak. There should still be a lot of Spirit Locusts and Pure Water Frog there."

"Thank you." 

"It's okay. I am going to visit Fatty Zhang's aunt anyway. She is accepted as a disciple by one of the elders in Alchemy Peak." Third Uncle then continued. "If you have nothing to do, we can go there right now."

Ren Qingquan nodded and the two of them walked to the Alchemy Peak. 

After walking a few minutes, the Third Uncle asked him. "You've reached the Nascent Soul stage right? Don't you have a flying sword or other means of transportation? The distance to Alchemy Peak is quite far."

Ren Qingquan slapped his forehead. "I forgot I have the ability to fly. Third Uncle, can you show me the direction of the Alchemy Peak?"

Third Uncle pointed to a direction and  Ren Qingquan activated Evanescent Movement Technique before pulling Third Uncle's arms and flying at high speed. He also used Armament Transformation and created a barrier in front of them.
