Chapter 26: GRS & Arcs.
Chapter 26: GRS & Arcs.
The teleportation portals in the Water Kingdom are so advanced and stable that a person won't feel dizzy even after nonstops teleporting one hundred times. In the magically advanced kingdom, teleporting was just like breathing, and even commoners could use these teleporters. Well, as long as they have the money to pay for the teleportation bill.
Whittaker took a look around and noticed that this place had the same design as the Quest Hall, just that the building was three times bigger than the other one, and it was packed with awakened of all ages.
Then there's more of Night's Will system relative, the huge pillar was placed beside him and more notification panels hovered around the pillar.
"Does every Quest hall and Adventure Association building has this huge metallic pillar?" Whittaker asked Shadow. In his crystal white eyes, a huge brown pillar tiled with black metal and surging with mana was reflected.
"Yeah, since these pillars are the main source behind the reason why teleportation from one place to another is made easily accessible to anyone," Shadow said, his words ignited the curious nature of Whittaker. Shadow continued after glancing at his sparkling eyes, "Do you wanna know more about it?"
"Yes!" Immediately, he shook his head in wild fervent, displaying intense passion about this topic.
"Pillars like this one is called GRS, short for Global Relocation System. The GRS is made after combining different types of mana-conduction metals and Etherwood obtained from an Ether tree. Ether tree is a popular material whose timber is used as a central component in many magic constructs, one of them being the GRS." Shadow explained, to the person beside him, while walking through the central path to get out of this building. "If you want to know more about the Ether tree then you can search for information about it through the mana com."
'He seems to know just about everything. Is Shadow a living encyclopedia? Or maybe these are just basic knowledge for the awakened!' Whittaker thought. He was still interested in the GRS, so he took out the mana com.
The mana com had a built-in explanation mode that explained to a newly registered user how to use it through the help of arrows. A screen panel with a search feature opened in his vision. In the search feature, he added in the name of the Ether tree by thinking about it.
[Ether trees are more than a thousand years old trees that have absorbed a lot of Mana during their growth and lifetime. The timber obtained from them are able to conduct Mana very well and is therefore used to create high-quality scepters, magical spell scrolls, parts of magical weapons, and components of magic constructs. Their leaves are so full of vitality that eating a single piece can help an amputated person grow their limb. A single Ether tree is worth more than a million platinum.]
Ding... Ding... Dong... His head exploded. 'More than a million platinum', he has never held more than ten gold coins at a time, this amount was astronomical enough to shock the soul and the five mortal senses.
The Adventure Association building in Swadehash City was located on a cliff, approximately a few inches within the boundary of the City.
Outside of this boundary, Whittaker saw many Awakened riding on chained winged beasts and huge pieces of metal... his head tilted and eyes widened in shock, 'Metal could fly!'... ??? But his footsteps didn't stop in their tracks.
He was stepping ahead while gaping at the beasts and metals in the skies, his head tilted back, his body moving ahead, a walking posture that earned him many glares. The people around felt sorry thinking that fate was cruel to this pretty boy.
"God gave him a pretty face but in return, took away his intelligence." A bystander said to his friend.
The friend heaved a huge regretful sigh, "Sigh~~, Fate is cruel, and it is not in our power to help him. A person can only move on after witnessing the cruelty of fate."
Soon after, Shadow and Whittaker stepped out of the city boundary, right at that moment, Shadow pulled out an identical metallic slab from his spatial ring.
It was forbidden to fly within the boundaries of the City of Water Kingdom. Anyone that breaks this rule will be punished. A lightning bolt will strike them down to the ground. At best, they will crash on the ground and suffers from some broken bones and charred skin. At worst, they will pass away from the pain. That's why no one was seen flying in the cities.
Shadow comfortably placed his butt on the "Arc".
"What is this?" Whittaker cautiously stared at it. His actions were enough to label him as a pumpkin from the countryside.
"A flying object called Arc. It will help us reach the Silver Soul Forest faster." He answered and with a slight glance at the skies continued, "You probably don't have one, so Hop onto my Arc."
He only took caution against the unknown, but not the known. Such was his personality.
"Thanks!" Whittaker exclaimed, walking up to the hovering Arc, he tried to sit down on it, but he couldn't as the Arc floated over his head. A real-life struggle began for the young boy trying to place his butt on the "Arc".
"Pfft" Shadow turned around to laugh at what he just saw. Then he turned back to say with an extended hand, "Take my hand, I will help you up."
"Thanks once again, " He grabbed his hand and Shadow hauled him up and placed him on the arc.
Then the Arc truly started flying.
He was flying!
Feeling the rush of wind ruffling his air, a beaming smile appears on his face. He asks the living encyclopedia with eyes opened wide in excitement, "How was this thing created? How does it work??"
Shadow explained, "The Arc and other Flying objects are made by fusing mana conductors with a metal called "Common". Just like its name, the metal alone has no properties, but once combined with mana conductors, it becomes Special."
"How so?" Whittaker said. He continues, "How can metal that is named "Common" because of possessing no properties become special because of combining with mana conductor???"
With a smile on his face, Shadow continues his chat with the excited roommate.
"Its metal is pushed by gravity instead of pulled, but only when a mana current runs through it. No one knew that until the Great Professor Heimerdinger while performing one of his experiment, found out about its special properties,"
