Chapter 185: Florida Man Trains First Killing Robot Prototype by Giving It Driving Lessons
While Felix was busy bringing the paladins over to the island, Diana also had her hands full dealing with a new batch of priestesses and paladins, who arrived at the island through their flying carpets. She transferred them to the Fate Plaza and explained the agreements and the new customs of this land.
The 300 newcomers had no issue with the arrangement and the non-aggression pact between the monster girls and the church. The senior priestesses took a break to recharge their mana, preparing to go back and fetch another batch of civilians. As for the rest, they joined Zen's group, helping clear the purified forest.
Before nightfall, the senior priestesses flew north to pick up more people and their belongings. Crossing the path with them, Felix reached home via the land route.
Bringing 20 tall paladins on board, Felix drove the truck back to his island, following the trail left behind by Diana when she drove home. As the trees and obstacles had already been plowed by the truck's barrier, the journey was smooth sailing.
Going through Aero City and arriving at his floating island took only five hours. He managed to come before the nightfall.
Meanwhile, the paladins at the back all had purple faces. They kept circulating their aura to fight carsickness. One of them vomited rainbow lunch at the side of the truck. No one had enough energy to pursue his pants anymore.
Felix operated the Fate Plaza and sent everybody to the island. After the teleportation, the girls nearly collapsed due to the dizziness and the sudden changes in altitude.
He came into another issue. As it was almost nighttime, these people didn't have enough time to build a shelter for themselves. As Felix didn't want to take them into his house, he wondered if he could invest some of his excess lifespans to purchase some small homes or modern tents.
Once again, Felix opened the system shop and navigated to the camping and tent sections. All assortment of tents and tools were on display. He picked the recommended bundle sales, which consisted of a cotton canvas tent, a portable bed, cooking tools, and survival kits.
Purchasing 20 sets of them cost him only 10,000 years of lifespan, which was very affordable. After the purchase, he ejected the items from his inventory and called them over.
"Ladies, these will be your temporary shelter for the night. One person per camping set. Come up and take your tent so that we can start preparing dinner and call it a day. I'm going to go back and fetch another batch of settlers to help tonight."
The girls, who had never seen modern canvas tents before, gathered around to look. They were used to cone tents, made of linen or rough clothes. Seeing the sophisticated shapes and unknown parts, they got curious.
"Is that… a hole for a window?" One of them lifted the tent and flipped it around, inspecting its parts.
"The texture is soft. What is this made of?" Another kept stroking the tent.
Felix cleared his throat and explained, "This is called 'Canvas Tent'. It has windows for the airflow to enter, so you won't feel suffocated when you are sleeping inside."
The girls widened their eyes in astonishment.
Their military tents were usually windowless, and the only path for the airflow was the front entrance. Every night, they could barely breathe when they slept, and it never felt comfortable unless they poked holes in their tents to get some fresh air.
Thus, upon hearing about the ventilation, they got excited. Everybody picked up their supplies and fiddled with their tents.
Felix then introduced the manuals, which came with the tents. Fortunately, the images in the manual were easy to understand even though the girls couldn't read the words. They easily assembled the parts in minutes.
The girls were fast learners. As Cornelia had mentioned, they were adept craftswomen. Everybody picked their desired location for a camp near the plaza and set up their tents.
It only took them less than two minutes to complete. They also gleefully accepted the survival kits and cooking utensils, provided by Felix.
Felix smiled in satisfaction. He then searched his inventory, arranging some dragon meat and seasoning for the welcome party.
However, the paladins had a strong code of conduct. They were taught to always return their gratitude whenever someone did them a favor. Before Felix could bring them dinner, everybody took off their clothes.
Again, everybody valiantly walked toward Felix and politely prostrated to him while naked.
"Lord Savior, we're grateful for your kindness. Although we have nothing to repay you for your favor, we would like to tribute our bodies and souls. Please use our bodies however you like. You can even impregnate us as we do not mind bearing your great descendants."
Felix dully stared at the women and shook his head. He started to get used to their behavior. Without admiring their firm legs, fine hips, defined abs, and healthy chests, he distributed the meat and water. He instructed them.
"If you're hungry, cook this meat however you like. Oh, the water is here. Again, twist the plastic cap and you're good to go. I'm busy today, so… See you later."
Felix didn't wait to get assaulted by tall tough maidens. He nimbly stored the military truck in his inventory and rushed to his garage, leaving the girls hanging.
The 20 naked paladins raised their heads and found Felix leaving. Instead of being disappointed, they brightly smiled and lowered their heads again. One of them muttered, talking to her comrades.
"A true man does not move by worldly temptation, indeed. Sisters, this is why we must keep reminding him that leaving descendants is necessary. We must do everything in our power to relieve his burdens so that he can have spare time to make babies! His lineage and saintly bloodline must continue at all costs!"
The crowd stood up and roared,
"Yeah! Let's work hard and preserve his bloodline!"
"For our savior's lineage and bloodline! We make babies!"
"YEAAAH! Make houses, make towns, and make babies!"
The crowd was so loud that nearby lamias and the group who had arrived before could hear them.
The lamia crowd shook their heads, knowing how pointless it was to seduce Felix under the watchful eyes of Diana and Jiji. As for Zen's group, they paused to think for a moment before they shrugged, agreeing with the settlers' proclamation.
…
Felix entered the garage and fetched another military truck, planning to make Diana help him transport another batch of civilians and settlers.
He had all the transportation, but he lacked drivers. He wondered if he could teach Jiji and others and make them drive for him. But then, he remembered some of the rewards, which he had obtained from the mysterious crate gacha.
Class-A gacha boxes were unique. They offered him the following rewards:
- Random Immortal-Grade Weapon x 1 (0.5%)
- Random Immortal-Grade Medicine x 1 (0.5%)
- Domestic Automaton x 1 (1%)
- Combat Automaton x 1 (1%)
- Random Vehicle x 1 (2%)
- Random Heavy Weaponry & Ammunition Pack x 1 (5%)
- Super Elixir Bundle x 100 (7%)
- Super Stimulant (Feel Good Max Version) x 420 (8%)
- Super Costume Pack x 1 (15%)
- Magical Creature Carcass Ticket x 1 (20%)
- Emergency Call-in Beacon x 100 (40%)
So far, Felix has cheated the system by exploiting a Dim Philosopher Stone to duplicate Class-A Mystery Crates and acquire most of the items. However, after a thousand rolls, he couldn't get his hands on the top two items.
As for the automatons, their description was too sinister for his liking. They had a metal human skull as their heads. With chromium teeth, square jaws, and glowing crimson eyes, they gave off the air of certain killing machines in movies.
Felix never wanted to use them as they looked the same as the robots, who answered the emergency beacons to help him during the megalith dragon's fight.
Looking at three domestic automaton faces in his inventory, Felix kept shaking his head. He had the urge to put them in the recycle bin and convert them into mana. Ultimately, they were magical items in the system. He couldn't do it.
"Argh! Fine. I'll test it."
After a long internal debate with his intrusive thoughts, Felix decided to activate one of them. He brought one out and put eight essence stones in battery sockets in its back. He closed the hatch and locked it.
.
Domestic Automaton
Manufactured by Ohio Man INC. This commercial version is designed for labor jobs and general work, such as house chores, cooking, child-rearing, mining, foraging, and various mundane tasks. It is capable of working without sleeping or resting as long as its batteries allow it.
Unfortunately, due to the unusual designs, not many have been sold despite its superior functions and durabilities compared to its counterparts from other rival companies. Many customers also file complaints that the domestic version has the same mainframe, core OS, and software as the combat version.
Note. Do not give it a weapon and activate its 'Search and Destroy' function.
.
As soon as Felix locked the back hatch of the automaton, its crimson eyes glowed and shone in the dark. It straightened its back and corrected its posture, standing attention.
A hologram system screen appeared in front of the automaton, activating the operation system and its pre-installed software. After two minutes of booting process, the screen asked Felix.
[Please assign a task.]
Felix clicked his tongue and postponed the assignment. He brought out a manual book, which came with the automaton. Flipping through some pages, he searched for the setting options and their features.
"Driving, driving, oh, here."
Felix found what he was looking for. Felix touched the screen and ignored the assignment prompt, clicking on the logo of the company on the bottom left of the screen, which prompted a list of applications. He chose the cog wheel icon, summoning the option menu.
Navigating to the advanced section, a long list of features showed up, allowing Felix to enable or disable them. On the screen, all features were enabled, including combat-related options.
Felix's expression turned ugly when he noticed a few nasty options. Some were disabled from the start, but a few slipped through.
- Kill Any Non-Machine Entity on Sight [Disable]
- Kill Hostile Entity on Sight [Enable]
Experience tales at mvl
- Search and Capture Mode [Disable]
- Search and Destroy Mode [Disable]
- Self-Defense Combat Functions [Enable]
- Auto-Learning AI [Enable]
- Immortal Net Access [Enable]
- Auto-Update [Enable]
Felix immediately disabled anything related to murder and killing. He then flipped through pages, searching for a method to give orders. Carefully, he typed into the text box.
"Drive Function… What else? Eh, this is not user-friendly at all."
Felix scratched his head as the manual said that he had to program specific actions himself in case the task was too complicated. However, he could give it a general order and let the AI process the data. However, this method also required Felix to personally oversee its actions, which was against his purpose.
He needed drivers to help bring people to his floating island. They could not just drive there and return home without taking anybody home.
Felix sighed deeply and complained to it, "Man, I just want someone to drive my trucks to Balicano City and bring the refugees to my place. Is that task too difficult for AI to understand?"
Suddenly, the machine closed the OS screen window and saluted. It then started walking toward Felix's truck, but it couldn't enter the vehicle as the truck's barrier prevented it from getting closer.
Felix sighed again. Since he needed to follow it to the refugees, he tweaked the truck's settings and allowed the automaton to drive it. But first, he stopped it from driving off the flying island.
"Hold it right there. You can't just drive from here to the city. You'll fall off the edge and destroy the truck."
The automaton's wide eyes looked back at Felix and opened its jaw, flabbergasted. It scratched its skull head as if it was confused.
Seeing its reaction, Felix found it funny. He put it back in his inventory and brought all his trucks. He then flew down the island and ejected the robot back, testing its abilities.
"Okay, let's drive the truck from here to Balicano City. You know the way, right?"
The automaton repeatedly nodded and pointed at the south, which was the wrong way.
Felix facepalmed. He shoved it aside and decided to drive there himself.
"Okay, Mr. AI. I want you to memorize the path I take. You will drive home when I tell you to, okay?"
The automaton repeatedly nodded again. It shifted its seat to the passenger seat, eagerly waiting for Felix to show him the way.
