Chapter 295: A Dire Situation
Red blood slowly dripped onto the ground as a steel sword resembling a gladius stabbed deep into a young woman's abdomen.
"Puhaahk!"
A goblin elite managed to successfully stab Seira!
Instinctively, the harrowing sight prompted Shye to swiftly leap toward Seira's side, barely managing to avoid a goblin elite's attack as he did so.
He had to swiftly aid her as the goblin onslaught proved to be a bit too much.
However, just before Shye was able to help, a huge crescent moon once again decimated around fifteen low-ranked goblins and three goblin elites, including the one who managed to plunge its sword deep into her body.
Observing her face, which bore the ferocious expression of a cornered beast, Shye couldn't help but feel impressed.
A human's true potential as a survivor truly shines when one faces death head-on.
Shye recognized the feeling, as he had been in a similar situation when he fought a fierce battle against the gale leopard during his freshman year at Colzen Academy.
He was well aware that currently, Seira was evolving at a rapid pace.
The closer one's brush with death is, the stronger one will be upon successfully surviving.
Shye reckoned that if she successfully survived this, the aura she would radiate would be that of a true veteran, hence, Shye decided to let her fight for her life.
Naturally, he stayed at a distance where he could rush to her aid in an instant once she could no longer hold on.
Unfortunately, things were bound to be chaotic and dangerous as the two bosses, the Goblin Chieftain and the Goblin High Shaman, ordered the six unidentified goblins to join the fray—one of the six swiftly blending into the surroundings—vanishing into thin air.
It didn't stop there.
A primal high-pitched roar carrying a hint of regality reverberated across the clearing, the nearby thickets, and the trees.
Scarlet aura then started to envelop all the goblins within what seemed to be the effective range of the chieftain's skill, [A Chieftain's Pride Lv.3 (Uncommon)].
Soon after, the physical capabilities of all the goblins, including the low-ranked ones, evidently increased.
Shye could still hold his ground, but Seira was being pushed deeper and deeper toward the brink of death.
'Tch…She needs to recover for a short while.' Shye thought inwardly.
He knew that it would be hard for Seira to survive in her current state. Discover magic at m-vl-em-pyr
Feeling someone violently grab her wrists, Seira swung her greatswords wildly at Shye—adrenaline evidently coursing through her body.
If not for his presence of mind, Shye's head would have flown off.
Fortunately, before he even attempted to pull her wrists, he recognized that there was a fairly high chance of Seira attacking him instinctively.
And so, he was able to dodge.
"Seira! It's me, Shye! Drink these and rest for a few seconds, then help me!" Shye exclaimed, ensuring that Seira heard him loud and clear.
Stuffing two potions in her hands—one of instantaneous recovery and one of greater stamina—Shye swiftly threw her to the side like yesterday's garbage.
Of course, he wanted to help her retreat as gently as possible but the circumstances didn't allow him to as his hair suddenly stood on end and the alarm bells in his head vigorously rang, informing him of the impending danger.
Shortly after, his instinct proved to be spot on.
Promptly after Shye threw Seira, a goblin suddenly emerged from thin air—its dagger, ferociously stabbing at Seira's recent location.
Had Shye not violently thrown her, she might have died right then and there.
Well, it wasn't like she fared much better after Shye threw her.
As her back forcefully hit the ground, Seira spat out alarming volumes of blood—barely alive.
She knew that if she allowed her consciousness to slip into oblivion, she would perish.
Hence, difficult as it may be, she gritted her teeth and held on—tightly—to the remaining shreds of her consciousness.
Her body ached all over and it was difficult to even breathe.
Nevertheless, she clung to life; she didn't want to die; she couldn't.
Painful as it was, Seira struggled to open the bottle of instantaneous recovery potion.
Then, with great difficulty, she managed to pour its contents into her mouth.
As the glistening scarlet liquid made its way into Seira's body, the painful sensation, especially the one originating from her abdomen was replaced by utter warmth.
A seemingly luxurious comfort she had never felt before.
Shortly after, her wounds began healing at a speed visible to the naked eye—the stab wound, swiftly closing.
In a short span of five seconds, she was fully healed.
A truly miraculous potion.
Glancing at her right hand, she noticed another potion bottle—a yellow one.
She didn't know what kind of potion it was as she thought that health potions would be everything she needed and that other potions simply weren't worth it.
Well, since it was handed to her for free, she would obviously consume it.
Meanwhile, at the frontlines, Shye had a frenzied expression on his face as he ferociously fought for not only his life but also for Seira's.
The damned goblins had a drastic increase in stats so he was having a hard time.
Especially now that six goblins of different classes—adept in the hunting ways of adventurers—surrounded him as though he was the monster.
Currently, two (C) ranked Goblin Warriors took the brunt of his attacks.
Although the little bastards were weaker than him, they were doing their job well, preventing him from slaying the Goblin Sorcerer and the Goblin Archer who was comfortably firing projectiles at him while the Goblin Shaman ensured that the entire goblin party's wounds were healed promptly.
Lastly, the Goblin Assassin would annoyingly emerge from tricky angles at opportune times, causing further trouble for him.
'This is too f*cking difficult!' Shye inwardly complained, a bit furious about the fact that the quest description was way too off.
Still, he had no choice but to complete it as the repercussions were death.
Gnashing his teeth as he gripped his greatswords tighter, Shye shot a menacing look at the Goblin High Shaman who seemed to be cackling sinisterly at his struggles.
Not for long though as the goblin party once again started attacking systematically.
The two Goblin warriors tried their hardest to employ switch tactics, successfully containing Shye in the middle of the hunting formation.
Naturally, he couldn't protect himself from all angles, hence, a golden opportunity presented itself for the Goblin Assassin to capitalize on.
Emerging from the shadows, the Goblin Assassin ferociously lunged at Shye, using one of its skills to ignite its dagger on fire and slit Shye's throat.
Unfortunately for it, its entire party was about to encounter the challenges that every adventurer party faces when they fail in their isolation tactics.
