Divine Monster Pet Evolution System

Chapter 21

C21 – Poison Swamp Crocodile

“Roar!”

A thunderous roar echoed from a hundred meters away. In no time, a massive black bear over two meters tall charged toward them, its nostrils flaring as it picked up the scent. The earth trembled beneath its weight, and upon spotting the humans, its eyes gleamed with excitement, seeing a perfect solution to its gnawing hunger.

“Bear-type Demonic Beast!”

Chen Wu immediately activated the Super God Evolution System’s scanning feature to assess the black bear.

[Creature]: Giant Claw Bear

[Skills]: Earth Shock, Roar, Crack Claw

[Potential]: High-grade Bronze

[Level]: Bronze Grade 2

It was merely a Grade 2 Demonic Beast.

Chen Wu promptly commanded, “Blood Rain, take it down with Feather Arrow!”

The Iron-feather Eagle in the sky swooped down, its feathers slicing through the air like knives, blanketing the Giant Claw Bear. The bear’s back was torn open in moments, iron-feathers embedded in the flesh, blood spurting wildly.

Enraged, the Giant Claw Bear charged frantically, swiping its lethal claws at Blood Rain above. But Blood Rain, a higher-level Demonic Pet with superior agility, was perfectly suited to counter ground-based powerhouses like this bear. Despite the bear’s ferocity and the ground splitting beneath its Earth Shock, it was no match for Blood Rain’s aerial assault. Beaten and battered, the bear eventually turned tail and fled in defeat.

Chen Wu directed Blood Rain in the skirmish, and after five minutes, the bear collapsed from blood loss. Blood Rain plunged from the sky, tearing the bear’s head apart in a final, decisive blow.

Chen Wu carefully extracted an Earth-type Demonic Core the size of a fist from the bear’s skull, pleased with his prize. He then continued on his journey.

Subsequently, three more Demonic Beasts emerged, all of Grade 1 and Grade 2, but Blood Rain dispatched them with ease. Their Crystal Cores were harvested and discarded on the roadside. The carcasses were left to the envious hunters, who buried them using a special technique. For Chen Wu, the remains of these Demonic Beasts were worthless and merely took up space.

For these hunters, stumbling upon this was akin to finding a gold and silver mine!

The struggle to secure even one or two Demonic Beast corpses throughout the year was real, and the value of just one such corpse could sustain a family for over a month without the need to brave the dangers of the mountains for hunting. The rarity and worth of these corpses were beyond question.

The situation grew more grave when they discovered a bow and arrow, unmistakably belonging to Chen Guang.

Chen Wu remembered that day vividly; the Gold-sand River was to the south of this region. He had been cornered by Hu Wang not too far from here. With no other choice, Chen Guang had bravely drawn the Blood Wolf away in this direction.

This memory filled him with deep concern. Several days had passed, and he fervently hoped that Uncle Chen was unharmed.

Four days had gone by. If Chen Guang hadn’t run into a Demonic Beast, he would likely have survived on his wits alone without starving. But a confrontation with a Demonic Beast would mean they might not even find his remains.

At last, they came upon a vast swamp. The water teemed with lush vegetation, and perhaps due to the high concentration of Spiritual Qi, the grass nearly reached the height of a person, concealing who knows how many Demonic Beasts.

“We can’t cross here; this is the Poison Swamp, and it’s teeming with Demonic Beasts!”

Chen Yong spoke with a tremor of fear, his words turning the complexions of the men behind him ashen.

“No worries. We’ll just proceed with caution and find a way around.”

Beyond this treacherous swamp lay the infamous “Black Cave,” a place of legend among the hunters of Chen Village. In reality, it was a mountain peppered with numerous dark and foreboding caves, home to various Demonic Beast Races, including many spirit beasts and birds. No fewer than four distinct races resided there!

This was why the hunters all but resigned themselves to the likelihood of Chen Guang’s demise.

The hunters hesitated, too intimidated to venture forth. The area was rife with Demonic Beasts of Grade 3 and even Grade 4, and their numbers were not insignificant. Even the Iron-feather Eagle couldn’t guarantee their safety. One false step, and they risked dying without a place to lay their bodies to rest.

“Here’s the plan: I’ll scout ahead on my own. I’ll go as far as Black Cave, roughly five hundred meters away. If I haven’t found any sign of Uncle Chen by then, I’ll head back immediately. You all should pull back to the perimeter for now.”

The hunters conferred briefly and nodded in agreement.

Old Man Wu cautioned, “Be very careful!”

“Don’t worry!”

Watching them depart, he set off alone.

Traveling solo proved to be more efficient. With Chen Wu’s spiritual energy and speed, coupled with Blood Rain, he had no need to fear the Demonic Beasts. He could have easily sped past them if not for the need to protect the others.

Chen Wu paused at the edge of the Poison Swamp, taken aback by the sight. “Wow, that’s a lot of crocodiles!”

In the murky, half-meter-deep water, he could see enormous crocodiles with their tough, armored backs exposed, resembling logs floating on the surface.

As Yun Su observed them, their details were revealed.

[Creature]: Poison Swamp Crocodile

[Skill]: Poison Explosive Bullet, Pursuit, Death Roll

[Potential]: High-grade Bronze

[Level]: Bronze Grade 1

The Grade 1 Poison Swamp Crocodiles didn’t even pique Blood Rain’s interest, but for the sake of training, Chen Wu decided to stir up a bit of trouble for them.

“Blood Rain, Feather Arrow, target the center of the lake!”

Blood Rain soared above the muddy pond, and in an instant, hundreds of Feather Arrows showered down upon the lake, causing a spectacular burst of water splashes!

Several resting Poison Swamp Crocodiles were pierced, leaving them with bloody wounds and eliciting angry roars.

In a flash, dozens of furious glares fixed on the Iron-feather Eagle circling above.

As the largest of the Poison Swamp Crocodiles let out a bellow, the rest followed suit, launching mud balls skyward in a barrage aimed at Blood Rain.

Unfazed, Blood Rain deftly maneuvered through the air, its wings beating as it evaded every Poison Explosive Bullet, not a single one making contact.

“Great job, Blood Rain! Keep firing those Feather Arrows!”

Blood Rain’s aerial advantage was crucial in dealing with the ferocious beasts below. As long as Blood Rain maintained its strikes from the sky, it would inevitably wear down the Poison Swamp Crocodiles!

Wave after wave of Feather Arrows showered down on the Poison Swamp Crocodiles. In moments, over a dozen were struck, their backs oozing blood from gaping wounds. Soon, the shallow waters of the filthy pond turned a crimson hue.

The Poison Swamp Crocodile King challenged Blood Rain, standing in the water alongside three robust Poison Swamp Crocodiles, all spewing Poison Explosive Bullets in rapid succession, unlike their ordinary counterparts!

[Creature]: Poison Swamp Crocodile

[Skills]: Chain Poison Explosive Bullet, Pounce, Death Roll

[Potential]: High-grade Bronze

[Level]: Bronze Grade 4

This was a formidable Poison Swamp Crocodile King at Bronze Grade 4!

Yet, Chen Wu was not intimidated; he was even more thrilled. The battle with the Poison Swamp Crocodile leader would reveal the extent of Blood Rain’s strength.

Three Grade 3 Poison Swamp Crocodiles, along with a Grade 4, frenziedly launched Poison Explosive Bullets, blanketing the sky. The Mud Explosive Bullets detonated mid-air, splattering toxic sludge everywhere, leaving the nearby trees reeking and their trunks pockmarked with corrosive damage.
