Chapter 290: Introducing the New Recruits
Evilyn waited until Victor was gone completely. Until no trace of his presence could be found before running off to report to Zane over what she had seen. Every step of the way, she was cautious to make sure she wasn't followed. But in the end she made it back to the Mansion where Zane and the others were lying it wait without leaving a trace.
Victor seldom concerned himself with the affairs of his siblings. Especially those who were much weaker than himself. However, had Evilyn been any of his other siblings he would have stopped and interrogated them why they were in his domain without paying proper respect.
But to those rare Horde Kings who were spectral in nature. They had their own rules, which they followed. Ghostly Horde Kings were almost always nomadic. They came and went wherever they were damn well pleased, no matter who was in charge of them.
And they had many other unique abilities. For example, because Evilyn was a spirit, and was not a corporeal being. Her death at the hands of Zane went entirely unnoticed by the other Horde Kings. There was no spiritual connection between her and the others.
The same applied to all other undead like her. Ghosts were an anomaly even to other undead. It was because of all of this that Victor had not suspected she was up to no good in the slightest. In fact, he figured she was just passing through the area and had become curious at what was happening when the Remnants attacked the Amazonian settlement.
Because of this, he simply acknowledged she was there before running off to fulfil more important matters. As for Evilyn, she was shocked by the power that Victor Wielded. His attack left an entire corner of the city's outskirts in desolation. As if an atom bomb had gone off in its exact location, albeit without the residual radiation.
It was a true disaster zone. And he did it with the flick of his fingers. At the very least, she discovered the unusual sandstorm which appeared in the area was of Victor's own making. But what exactly the skill was that he used to create and control it. Even Evilyn did not know.
When Zane and the others heard all of this, they sighed in relief. They had narrowly escaped death at Victor's hands without even realizing it until this moment. As for Zane, once he had some time to think through everything he heard. He silently internalized the desire to avoid gaining Victor's attention no matter what price he had to pay.
And once he had settled down from the troublesome news, he was quick to look at the newest of his acquisitions. The two women were of college age. And they were dressed rather provocative, which was a feature of the system and the armor it produced.
One had long, straight hair, with blunt bangs that had been turned black after her transformation into a horde of king. And the other had short hair in a bit of a tomboyish style. She even had visible muscles and abs between the gaps of her armor.
These two women seemed utterly furious that they had to serve beneath Zane from here on out, but they couldn't express their contempt due to the fact that they were officially under Zane's absolute control.
And because of this, he gazed at their names, which were projected to him by the display screen.

Their skills and attributes over all weren't bad. But there was one thing Zane immediately noticed, and that was the fact that these girls' attributes were equal to their level. Zane didn't know if that was somehow accomplished before they were raised as Death Knights by the awakened in question. Or if this was the base stats and awakened received upon being converted into a death knight.
Honestly, Zane didn't care, and he was quick to address to two women who were now bound to him in death.
"Emily, Dani. Whatever notions that damned school may have filled your head with. You are now in service to the Prince of Death. The one and only son of death. From now on, no matter how sour you may be towards me, you will obey my every command, and you will only speak of your frustrations when I give you permission to do so.
Now, for the rest of the night, I want the two of you to stand on watch with the others. And to get acquainted with them. They are your better after all. And you will treat them as if they are such. Now, I'm going to go get some rest. "
After saying this, Zane walked off, leaving the two new Death Knights to mull over what they said. Gwen was quick to approach the two of them and introduce herself to the newest members of the team.
"Hi, I'm Gwen… You could say I'm the second in command around here… Rather unofficially so. So, now that the two of you are dead, how does it feel? Go on speak freely, big brother isn't around to hear your complaints, and he did say you are to treat us as your betters. I command it!"
The two young women looked at one another before voicing their complaints to Gwen. Zane had said to treat her as their betters, which meant following her orders in the absence of his own.
"This fucking sucks! What the hell happened to us? One moment the two of us were living comfortably in Themiscyra, not having to follow anybody's orders. And the next thing we know our heads are rolling on the ground.
Then this fucking man resurrects us, and we are forced to obey his orders? What are we even alive anymore? Or are we…. Undead? But if we are undead, then why do we still look human?"
Gwen had a lengthy discussion about the two newcomers. About how the undead hierarchy worked. About who Zane was, and about what they were now that they were no longer human. It was all rather shocking to the two women, who, while they were aware that the zombie apocalypse had occurred.
They were unaware that there were undead who maintained a human appearance and characteristics such as intelligence, et cetera. After all, most of what remained of humanity had yet to come into contact with the Horde Kings and lived to tell the tale.
Because of this, it was a very long conversation that lasted well into the night. As for Zane, he immediately fell asleep. Though his body no longer required it, he personally enjoyed the experience. And was well accustomed to it.
---
Maya was sitting comfortably at the foot of the bed Zane used to occupy when he lived in the bunker. She was naturally aware that he had recently gained two new followers. But she wasn't concerned about that in the slightest. With the way his powers worked, they could not harm him, or defy any of his orders no matter how much they desired to.
Rather, Maya was becoming increasingly concerned about Zane's lovers. All of which were working their hardest to become stronger so that they wouldn't be a burden to Zane any longer. It was a truly troublesome matter for Maya, as she did not want Zane to get back together with them.
Because of this, she had been thinking of ways to slowly hinder their progress, which had been rather rapid as of late. But in the end, she couldn't think of anything that wouldn't inevitably piss off Zane when he learned of it.
Thus, for the time being, she simply comforted herself by resting on Zane's own bed. After all, being close to her son's scent made Death, or in this case, Maya, feel far more comfortable. She couldn't help but sigh and speak like that in the tone of a worried mother as she complained about her son.
"Why did my baby boy have to be such a playboy?"
