Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 240: Tracking Mission

For the next half a month, training went on in the same routine.

It wasn’t a long time, but the progress was significant.

During this period, Yabao managed to bring Fire Fang to the peak of mastery. Although Shadow Clone wasn’t specifically practiced, each training session required its use, resulting in Shadow Clone also reaching perfection.

There were now a full 35 perfect clones of Yabao.

This greatly improved the efficiency of Yabao’s skill training.

After Fire Fang training concluded, thanks to the 35 shadow clones and the energy pills, Yabao quickly brought Flaming Charge to full proficiency and is now rocketing towards mastery.

Despite lacking a golden finger, Water Luriana’s diligent training enabled her to smoothly perform Water Stream Jet.

Now, she can precisely aim her attacks without losing control.

The one who progressed the most, though, was Little Treasure.

On the third day after signing up for the sports meet, he learned Substitute through the virtual helmet, and on the second day after switching disks, he mastered the skill Taunt.

When Qiao Sang found out that Little Treasure had mastered Taunt in a single night, she was completely shaken.

What did Little Treasure’s quick mastery of Taunt indicate?

It indicated that he had a natural talent for this move!

Qiao Sang could only comfort herself by thinking, although Taunt, as a skill of mental attack, does attract hatred, it’s highly effective for disrupting opponents.

Final note: Use sparingly!

With Substitute in hand, Little Treasure’s progress in Hypnosis training accelerated drastically.

Hypnosis, already close to full mastery, was now perfected, and it was estimated that reaching ultimate mastery would only take a week.

As for Brick-Breaking training, he advanced from being unable to break a single tile to breaking three tiles simultaneously.

Though he was still far from real Brick-Breaking standards, if other participants in this event weren’t all Fighting-type pets, Qiao Sang felt that Little Treasure had a fair shot at achieving second-to-last place.

Qiao Sang put down her pen, reflecting on the recent training achievements, realizing that she herself hadn’t made much progress.

She was keeping up with her coursework, but in comparison to her classmates with a foundation stronger than the building’s foundation, her own progress felt minimal.

Meditation had become a routine of early mornings and late nights; she could feel her brain capacity increasing bit by bit.

However, without a device specifically for measuring brain capacity, she had no idea how far her mental development had advanced.

Thanks to meditation, she felt her mind had become significantly clearer over this period, especially since discovering that Little Treasure had learned Taunt.

From that day on, any slight disturbance in the middle of the night would wake her up.

More than once, she had awoken to find Little Treasure clutching her phone and laughing hysterically.

At those times, she felt a pang of envy for Yabao, who could sleep undisturbed and even drool.

Not long after she put down her pen, her phone vibrated on the desk. She picked it up, leaned back on her bed, and opened it.

Someone had tagged her in the chat group.

[Wang Yao]: @Qiao Sang, how’s your mission going?

Qiao Sang pouted and replied:

[Qiao Sang]: How would I have time for that? I’m drowning in homework!

This was Qiao Sang’s second mission, and given her daily load of homework, she had picked a simple one.

Even though the mission deadline had been extended from five to seven days due to classes, it was still difficult for a high school student with daily classes and homework to find the time.

[Shi Gaofeng]: Why not take a leave? Every mission is a legitimate excuse to skip school! How could you pass up such an opportunity?

[Wang Yao]: Shut up, Shi Gaofeng. Qiao Sang isn’t like you.

Qiao Sang was surprised as she read the messages. Such a good excuse existed?!

She immediately typed to ask:

[Qiao Sang]: Would the homeroom teacher really approve this kind of leave?

[Shi Gaofeng]: Haha! The way you asked that, I knew you were my kindred spirit!

[Shi Gaofeng]: Of course, the homeroom teacher would approve! We’re on the school team, after all.

[Wang Yao retracted a message]

[Shi Gaofeng]: @Wang Yao, if you dared to send it, dare to leave it up!

[Wang Yao]: I can retract what I sent if I want to!

[Wang Yao]: By the way, Shi Gaofeng, you’ve taken three days off in a row. Have you completed the mission yet?

[Shi Gaofeng]: …

Qiao Sang quietly exited the chat.

She began to consider the feasibility of taking a leave.

Truthfully, she had quite a few things to do.

Her brain capacity definitely needed to be assessed to check her current development level.

Although it wasn’t easy to customize an energy pill for Water Luriana, she needed to buy a jar of energy pills that could be used by any Water-type pet.

And then, there was the mission.

Thinking of the mission made Qiao Sang feel a bit of a headache.

The day she accepted it had been a weekend. Since it was convenient, she’d chosen one close to home.

But when she called to contact the mission issuer, they’d told her they’d gone out for a few days.

Two days later, it was Monday, and she had to attend classes, so the mission got delayed.

If she waited until the weekend and the person went out again, she might get a poor rating.

With this in mind, Qiao Sang decisively took out her phone and dialed the vice principal’s number.

---

The next day.

Qiao Sang arrived at the mission location: 68 Jingquan Street.

This was only three streets away from where she was currently staying, even closer than Shengshui High School.

The man who opened the door had disheveled, messy hair and squinted his eyes, as though he wasn’t used to the light after coming out of darkness.

He looked at Qiao Sang, still carrying her backpack, and frowned, “You’re so young.”

“Is there an age restriction for this mission?” Qiao Sang asked.

The man paused.

“No.”

“Then why don’t you invite me in?” Qiao Sang thought to herself, but said nothing.

Realizing this, the man scratched his head and said, “Come on in.”

Qiao Sang removed her shoes and walked in, noticing that the curtains were drawn, leaving the room dimly lit.

The man sat on the living room sofa and asked, “You know the mission. How do you plan to handle it?”

Without thinking, Qiao Sang replied, “Either I give the guy a good beating so he doesn’t dare follow you again, or we call the police.”

The mission was simple yet complicated.

The client claimed he was being followed and wanted a solution.

He hadn’t specified any requirements for the pet’s level or abilities, and it was close to her home, so Qiao Sang took it on.

The man crossed his legs and said, “I’m a public figure, so I can’t involve the police.”

Qiao Sang looked him over, surprised.

“Are you a celebrity?”

The man’s mouth twitched.

“Not exactly.”

“Oh.” Qiao Sang said, her interest waning.

Seeing her reaction, the man couldn’t help but add, “I’m an internet influencer.”

“Oh.”

“I have over a million followers!”

I have three times your followers, Qiao Sang thought, but outwardly, she replied, “Let’s get to the point. Do you know who’s following you?”

“...No.” The man admitted.

“How did you realize someone was following you?” Qiao Sang asked.

“Whenever I go out, I feel someone behind me, constantly watching.” He explained.

“I haven’t seen them, but I trust my instincts. The feeling is intense.”

Bold of you, she thought. You went out for two days knowing someone was following you.

“How long has this been going on?” Qiao Sang asked.

The man thought for a moment.

“About a week.”

“I understand.” Qiao Sang stood up.

“Let’s head out.”

The man was puzzled.

“Head out? For what?”

Qiao Sang sighed.

“If you don’t go out, how will they follow you? How else am I supposed to catch them?”

Just as she finished speaking, there was a knock on the door: “Hello, anyone home? I’m here for the mission.”

Qiao Sang: ???
