Chapter 205: The Great Change

Chapter 205: The Great Change

Unaware of the hidden dangers that had struck the world, Evan and the others had begun to rest up from their journey. On the other hand, Rick continued on his way to Checkpoint 05 to do an inspection. He didn't travel directly towards the base but to a remote hillside where he deployed a scouting drone.

Soon, this drone had travel a few kilometers distance arriving within the vicinity of Checkpoint 05. Yet, despite arriving here, Rick frowned as he didn't notice a change, even the lazy fat supervisor Kens was at peace as he filled his mouth with a sandwich in the control room while the soldiers on patrol yawned out of boredom.

'Was I wrong? Could it be that I was only hallucinating?' Rick thought to himself with a strange look on his face.

He pondered for a bit more, but soon his eyes flashed with a look of realization. He recalled that the entrance used by them would transfer them randomly, meaning that it didn't necessarily have to be Checkpoint 05 for any unusual disturbances to arrive.

'Darn, I was foolish, I should have just contacted Leo and the others and asked them to check on all the checkpoints,' When Rick said this, he hurriedly called back the drone and pressed a button on a wrist device seen on many individuals in this realm.

He quickly called Leo, who picked up a few seconds after as he spoke, "Rick, I thought you were with Evan in the base? I'm still on a mission, why are you calling?"

Rick got straight to the point, "Leo, there might be an issue outside the portal, I don't know what's going on, but I am certain that some other force has blocked a few drones we had set in place."

"You guys had what? I... I don't even know what to say, but I'll get to that later, are you serious about that claim?" Leo asked in shock.

Rick replied with solemn eyes, "Correct, I am one hundred percent sure, as such, I think that it would be best if everyone checked on the status of all the Checkpoints and see if there were any intruders. As for me, I'll..."

Rick was about to say something but at this moment, a loud alarm sounded from far and wide, disrupting even Rick's and Leos's connection as a priority SOS signal was sent to all devices.

"Warning! Warning! Breach in Checkpoint 01! Breach in Checkpoint 01! Multiple hostiles of the Insect Hive are innnn...." The machine-like voice was trying to say something, but suddenly it began to malfunction before it shut down.

At this point, a loud alarm that could fill anyone with a sense of crisis sounded across the area. It was to such an extent that it startled everyone from all bases and even the City of Hope.

'It's too late...' Rick thought as he stared at Checkpoint 05 before he turned around and vanished across the distance.

About half an hour had passed since the danger announcement, and within the City of Hope, Milon, Vernisa, Wilma, and the other core officials were gathered in a meeting room with Evan's party.

The atmosphere was solemn as the alarms were still in effect, causing everyone in the city to not feel at ease; every man and woman seemed ready to fight a battle.

"How can this happen? How did they get in here?" Milon said as he pointed on the display screen, one that showed the images of the Mosquito Queen's horde as well as the Bee Empress's Mutant Bee army.

Both forces were currently ravaging Checkpoint 01 which was the nearest checkpoint to the City of Hope, but a few had even begun to scatter about in groups devastating the nearby areas at their queen's commands.

Evan looked at everyone and spoke, "I don't know how they slipped past your defenses, but what I do know is that the method they used to avoid or drones was more likely the very same used to slip through your weapons."

Vernisa shook her head and spoke, "Wouldn't that be through the use of an EMP pulse? Where could their kind get such technology?"

When Milon and Evan heard this, they made puzzled faces, but soon, everyone's face showed shock as they exclaimed at the same time, "The Electro Sonic Bug!"

Evan, having shouted along with the two had a dark look as he thought, "To think I didn't think much of that darn bug tribe within the Insect Hive. Che! I had even forgotten about their capabilities simply because I didn't battle the Insect Clan during that time..."

Evan clicked his teeth, not liking the situation at all, Layla, Joe, and Emilia were also not feeling well. They didn't like how the Insect Hive had added themselves to their list enemies in the X Space, even more so when their current concern was those Body Shifters.

Milon tried to calm down as he spoke, "Damn, since things are already at this stage, we can't let the rural sectors suffer damages anymore! We must hurry and take action!"

"That's right, the longer we stay here, the more people will die!" Vernisa added.

"Sir Milon, give the word, and I will lead my strike squad at once," Wilma said with a slight bow.

Evan took a deep breath as he looked at Joe, Layla, and the others in his party. As he saw the looks in their eyes, a sight that showed firmness he shifted his eyes onto Milon and spoke, "Sir Milon, Miss Wilma, and Miss Vernisa, we shall be heading out again to deal with the two leaders and monsters we see in our way, do please take care of yourselves."

Having already fought against these armies in the past, suffering a devastating defeat, Milon and the other officials knew full well that they weren't a match for the leaders. They had to leave it to those with the power to face them; if anything, they could only bolster their defenses and send aerial strike units to bombard the others with high powered weapons.

"Good, leave the defenses here to us, we will also take care of any of the stragglers who have traveled to the rural districts," Milon said with a sharp look.

Evan nodded at Milon's words, Joe and the others then looked at him before they made their way towards the door. However, right at this time, there was a change.

With a bang, the door opened and Leo's party that had rushed back from their previous mission had arrived, they had a heavy breath as if they came here in a hurry.

Leo noticed Evan was heading out; he had a feeling that they had already come to some decision. He spoke, "Are you guys headed out there right now?"

Evan looked at Leo and his friends noticing that their genetic power was more vibrant, his eyes had a slightly interested look as he thought, 'Oh, so they've leveled up... these evolvers are quite something...'

After thinking, Evan nodded and replied, "That's right; we are headed to the battlefield."

Leo looked at Julie, Razel, Oron, and Irene before he looked at Evan and spoke, "Take us with you; you won't be able to face that many of them by yourself."

Leo thought that Evan was going to reject them and was prepared to use a myriad of thought out words to persuade them, but Evan merely nodded and spoke, "Fine, let's go."

"Eh?" Leo ushered in shock, however, as if they didn't want to waste time, Evan and the others had already vanished from the room with high-speed movement.

"Crap, let's hurry now, or we'll never catch up!" Leo said as he hurried along.

'So quick,' Julie, Razel, Oron, and Irene thought, but they soon followed along, moving at a pace that was one step slower.

While Evan and the others advanced, a blue blur bolted from the distance before it caught up to them, Rick now appearing with the group didn't even ask questions as he followed along.

Both partied soon after left the range of the city as they hurried towards the chaotic Checkpoint 01. Milon watched this with deep eyes before he shook his head, a firm look showing on his face as he stared at everyone and spoke, "What are you waiting for? Let's get moving!"

The scene within the X Space now taking on a new turn, as if beckoning the start of a terrifying battle to be remembered.
