American Tax Officer

Chapter 295: Chapter 192: Want to Learn? I'll Teach You!_2

Of course, Ducray didn't hope David could get elected; he preferred his own Branch's Bellamy to win, as it would be counted as one of his achievements.

But to freeze someone's funds like this was clearly unreasonable, so he said with a grim face, "Bellamy, David isn't someone to be trifled with. By freezing his tax achievements, he's likely to make a fuss. If this gets to the head office, it will be difficult for me to handle..."

"Director, according to the investigation results from my side, these funds are not collected through the Black Tax Act. They should be funds related to previous tax evasions by GCO Corporation. Therefore, I believe what David did can actually be considered a violation, and even if this goes to the head office, we have solid grounds," Bellamy said.

"Not collected through the Black Tax Act..."

"Giggle giggle giggle..."

Before Ducray could finish his sentence, someone knocked on the door, and he had to stop his train of thought and call out, "Come in."

The next second, his assistant pushed the door open and said, "Director, David from the Lake District Sub-Bureau Branch has come to our office and wishes to see you."

Ducray raised his eyebrows, then gave Bellamy a reproachful look as if to say: See, now he has come knocking, demanding an explanation!

"Director, as I said earlier, David's tax collection can be categorized as a violation, and Chief Tax Officer Brown Soros from New York sees it the same way. So, you don't have to worry about any fuss being made at the head office," Bellamy continued.

Ducray looked back at Bellamy; he hadn't expected his subordinate to have teamed up with Brown Soros from New York.

And to his knowledge, Brown Soros from New York had the support of none other than Welton Heng, the National Tax Bureau's Chief Advisor.

Adding to what Bellamy had said about the violation, this matter did indeed have a solid footing.

With this in mind, he nodded and said, "Alright, I know what to do now. Let him come up and see me!"

A few minutes later.

David was brought into the office, but he didn't hurry to reveal his objective and instead extended his hand, saying, "Director Ducray, glad to meet you."

"Director David, I'm well aware of your reputation; it's an honor to finally meet you in person," replied Ducray.

"No, if we're talking reputation, Chief Tax Officer Bellamy from your Branch is certainly more acclaimed," said David.

"You flatter me, Director David," Ducray replied, waving his hand with a gesture of modesty. Then he changed the subject, saying, "Alright, Director David, let's discuss the matter at hand."

"This is the situation. Not long ago, I reached an agreement with GCO Corporation. They would pay nearly eighty million in taxes, but your Long Beach Branch froze it. Director Ducray, you must be aware of this, right?" David inquired.

"Yes, I am aware of the situation. GCO is a legitimate company, and their sudden transfer of such a significant sum to Nevada State does give us the right to freeze the funds for investigation by territorial jurisdiction. If there are no issues, we will unfreeze them so they can proceed with the transfer," Ducray explained.

"May I know how long the investigation and freeze are going to take?" David asked.

Ducray pretended to think before replying, "It's hard to say. But rest assured, Director David, we're all part of the National Tax Bureau system; I'll ensure a 'fast track' for you!"

"Is one day enough time?" David pushed.

In an instant, Ducray's eyebrows furrowed, noting the tone in David's voice as if setting an ultimatum. He responded coolly, "I'm sorry, but I can't give you an answer right now."

Seeing that the other party was not acknowledging the issue, David didn't bother being polite anymore, stating directly, "Director Ducray, let's not beat around the bush. I feel like some people in your office are biased against this tax collection of mine and may have intentionally frozen it. I hope you'll seriously consider this, as I wouldn't want this to end unpleasantly for everyone."

"What do you mean by that? Why would anyone here be biased against your tax collection? This is just a standard procedure," Ducray rebutted.

"Director Ducray, aren't you worried this issue might escalate to the head office?" David countered.

As Ducray continued to feign ignorance, David explicitly brought up the head office.

Chapter Experience:

Unexpectedly, Ducray remained confident, replying, "We have solid justifications. Even the senior management at the head office won't blame us."

Without responding further, David fixed a dead stare on Ducray.

As the information kept appearing before his eyes, the corners of David's mouth gradually began to rise. He then asked, "Director Ducray, are you sure you want to go through with this?"

He had never taken action against anyone within the National Tax Bureau system before, but if Ducray was going to be uncooperative, he didn't mind teaching him a lesson.

"There's nothing to be sure or unsure of; I've told you, it's just standard procedure," Ducray insisted.

"Well then, Director Ducray, if that is the case, I will take my leave now," David concluded.

As he walked out of the office and approached the elevator, David suddenly thought of something. He found a staff member and said, "Could you please convey a message to Chief Tax Officer Bellamy for me? Tell him I would like to meet him."
