Chapter 17
C17 – Selling the Mutated Beast’s Corpse
Peng Gengkun had slain numerous mutated beasts within the Cloud Connecting Mountain Range, consuming them to enhance his cultivation significantly. Yet, advancing to the next level was still a challenging feat.
Nonetheless, Peng Gengkun was quite content. For most, advancing from the Intermediate to the High Rank in Qi Refining would take at least seven to eight months, but he had managed it in merely a week’s time.
Despite this achievement, Peng Gengkun didn’t take time to rest.
He had a considerable stash of mutated beast carcasses to deal with, after all!
While not every carcass might fetch a good price, there were certainly valuable ones among them.
His plan was to trade these carcasses for treasures first, then focus on his Martial Arts training.
Peng Gengkun nonchalantly slipped a ring onto his finger, feigning the possession of a Space Ring, before heading to a trading post just outside the Flying Cloud Sect.
Warriors who came into possession of unneeded treasures would typically sell them. As such, a merchant house was established near the Flying Cloud Sect, where warriors could sell their surplus items. The Sect ensured the safety of these merchants, who in turn provided a source of income for the Sect’s disciples.
Upon entering the merchant house, a servant promptly approached Peng Gengkun to inquire about his business.
“I’m here to sell,” Peng Gengkun stated succinctly. “I’ve slain some mutated beasts. I believe their carcasses could be of use, so I’m here to see if there’s any interest.”
“Please wait a moment,” the servant replied. “An appraiser will assess the quality and potential uses of the mutated beast carcasses and then we’ll offer you a reference price.”
Peng Gengkun nodded and settled into a secluded spot to wait.
Observing his surroundings, he noticed numerous warriors engaged in transactions. Appraisers from the Chamber of Commerce were busy evaluating their wares.
“This Chamber of Commerce is quite rudimentary, lacking even an appraisal room. But it seems that most of these disciples are elite. Perhaps those from the Inner Sect are accorded greater privileges,” he mused, coming to terms with the situation.
Before long, an appraiser from the Chamber of Commerce approached Peng Gengkun.
“Please present the mutated beast carcasses you’ve hunted,” the appraiser requested straightforwardly. “I see you’re not carrying a bag. Do you have something like a Space Ring to store them?”
Peng Gengkun gave a nod. He then feigned a casual stroke of his Space Ring, simultaneously retrieving all the corpses of the mutated beasts from his Leviathan-roc Space.
The appraiser meticulously examined each of the mutated beast corpses, nodding thoughtfully.
“You’ve hunted quite a collection of mutated beasts,” he observed.
After calculating their worth, the appraiser informed Peng Gengkun, “The total value comes to 17.5 Spirit Stones. Since the Chamber of Commerce doesn’t deal in half stones, you might want to consider purchasing some items instead.”
Peng Gengkun nodded in agreement, then added, “There’s more. I have another corpse here. How many Spirit Stones would this one fetch?”
With that, he presented the python’s corpse.
The appraiser’s expression turned peculiar at the sight of the python, and he was visibly taken aback. He ran his fingers over the python’s bones, his eyes gradually gleaming with excitement.
“Such formidable bones! This isn’t just any mutated beast; it’s on the verge of becoming a demonic beast! To have slain such a creature, you’re quite skilled indeed!”
Peng Gengkun chuckled, a touch of embarrassment in his smile, “It was mostly luck. How much is it worth?”
“A standard Azure Anaconda would be valued at three Spirit Stones, but this one, nearing demonic status, is worth no less than twenty Spirit Stones! I can’t pinpoint the exact value without further consultation,” the appraiser explained.
“If it’s not too much trouble, could you please wait here for a short while?” he added.
“Sure, I’ll wait,” Peng Gengkun replied with a smile, watching the appraiser depart with a sense of anticipation.
It dawned on him how effortlessly warriors could amass wealth, earning substantial sums by merely slaying a handful of mutated beasts.
“As an Intermediate Rank Qi Refining Warrior who has mastered the Great Vajra Palm and possesses the unique Leviathan-roc Astral Energy, I can take down mutated beasts with ease. Other warriors at my level wouldn’t find it nearly as simple,” he mused, his excitement giving way to a calm reflection.
By the time the payment for the other mutated beast corpses had been delivered, Peng Gengkun was already elated with his earnings of over ten Spirit Stones.
“Let’s see what this Movement Technique is all about.”
Peng Gengkun pulled out the ancient tome Chang Jipeng had given him and gave it a thorough read, gaining a solid grasp of the technique.
“It’s a Grade Two Movement Technique, the Shocking Wind Step. It’s not intricate, but it can significantly boost my speed.”
“How many Spirit Stones are required to master the Shocking Wind Step?” Peng Gengkun inquired.
After a brief silence, the system responded, “Five.”
Peng Gengkun was taken aback, “It took so many Spirit Stones to learn the Great Vajra Palm, and now I only need five for the Shocking Wind Step?”
“The Great Vajra Palm is a Grade Two Martial Art. You elevated it to a Grade Four Martial Art, which cost you fifteen Spirit Stones to learn. The Shocking Wind Step, however, is simply a Grade Two Martial Art with no need for completion. You only need to consume five Spirit Stones to learn it.”
With that explanation, Peng Gengkun’s confusion cleared. It made sense that learning a Grade Four Martial Art like the Great Vajra Palm would be more costly.
Given that the Shocking Wind Step required a mere five Spirit Stones, Peng Gengkun gladly accepted. After absorbing the five stones, he instantly mastered the technique.
He took a couple of steps and nodded in approval.
“Even without actively using the Shocking Wind Step, my speed has improved. Had I known this technique on the day I faced the python, it wouldn’t have stood a chance! With the Vajra Worshipping Moon, I could’ve struck from a distance and easily slain it!”
Reflecting on this, Peng Gengkun’s appreciation for Chang Jipeng’s magnanimity deepened.
“I traded a Shadow Soul Grass for a Grade Two Movement Technique. It was a fair exchange, especially considering that the grass was actually made from the baby Leviathan’s spit.”
Lost in thought, Peng Gengkun’s reverie was interrupted by a voice: “An Azure Anaconda? Sell it to me.”
He was momentarily taken aback, then his brow furrowed, betraying his irritation.
He didn’t recognize the speaker, but the condescending tone was irksome, reminiscent of Inner Sect disciples like Xi Ming and Wei Mingzhi.
