Chapter 32: Ceril Tusin Orgatorph
Chapter 32: Ceril Tusin Orgatorph
Although I had on the grandiose title of a personal butler and even had clothes fitted for it, it wasnt anything special.
All there was were waking up at dawn and being Cerils practice duel partner, cleaning her room with the maids while she ate, preparing the necessary items per the days schedule and loading them onto her carriage ahead of time, and other preparations. Even if I were to pick a task a little more tedious than that, there was only the work of sticking to her side whenever she attended gatherings and acting as a living notepad that let her know other nobles names and faces ahead of time .
It originally wouldve been a rather busy position considering Orgatorph Houses fame, but Ceril was different.
Im going to get a commission today, so be ready for it.
Oi. You shouldve said that earlier. Ive even put on the perfume already.
Thats why I didnt say it on purpose.
I violently trembled as I looked at Ceril, who was getting more and more adept at playing with people.
Because she spent 6 days of the week at the Academy where bringing servants in was forbidden, I in truth had almost nothing that could be called work. After doing a few simple cleaning, spending most of the day training with knights was my daily schedule. I only followed Ceril around on days she happened to not have a lecture and only then decided to go out, but even then Ceril spent even those days on going to the Adventurers Guild to get commissions instead of going out to play or shop. Looked like today of all days happened to be that day.
Irritating.
But the most irritating thing was that Ceril, this incarnate of irritation, was an azure rank adventurer. When Id first heard about it, I thought that shed at most be emerald, the 6th rank, and didnt even think that shed be one rank higher. Those were only one rank different in name, and effectively the way people viewed emerald and azure ranks was different enough for people to say that it was only from the azure rank and up that one was properly recognized as an adventurer. The three ranks below azure were merely a 3-layer filter to simply filter out those that couldnt be counted on.
It was quite amazing that no one was objecting to a little kid who was the next head of the house boldly going out alone and killing monsters, but once Id followed along a few times, I could tell that there were knights who were stealthily hiding and watching her.
Seeing how they werent giving any help at all, it seemed like they were going to help only when things rose to a problem of people recognizing her status and attempting to kidnap or kill her.
Of course, this was a good thing for me, too. Because she always demanded my company at her commission works.
Obviously a newbie who just now became an adventurer and was dangling along a colorless iron rank tag couldnt tag along on azure rank commissions. Thanks to that, I was able to use being Cerils aide as a legitimate excuse, and go to the Adventurers Guild at any time of the normal week and receive whatever commission I could take.
The result of working really hard for more than 1 year like that was the emerald rank tag hanging on my neck. Lots of things had happened, but it ultimately was a rather satisfying experience.
This was also when I was able to solve one of the questions I had when I first arrived, just what kinds of commissions were there in the capitals Adventurers Guild and how it was being maintained.
The extermination commission of the capitals Adventurers Guild were simple. Incredibly easy. Or incredibly difficult. There literally was no middle.
The difficult commissions, just looking at their details, were almost impossible to tell if this was a fictional story or a real deal. Commissions like manticore has appeared from what-what name mountain range and is attacking a city, somewhere someplace a high-rank devil got summoned and things got wrecked, and so on got posted and then disappeared every single day. Id truly felt for the first time at this moment that this was a world where the Demon King Army wasnt the only problem.
Compared to that, the easy commissions were normal commissions that one could really see at any place. Starting from exterminating goblins that appeared at a nearby village to monsters that formed in the sewers. Hunting mobs of not-so-dangerous monsters that were deemed to have recently increased, and so on and so on. If the difficulty seemed to rise above these levels, every single one of them moved far away from the capital. The guild was being maintained in a form that a title of low-level hunting field fitted simply perfectly.
It was a structure that wouldnt be an exaggeration to call it a free-range theme-park for safe real-combat experience. Due to that, counterintuitively those who had some wealth of their own and wanted to safely gain experiences began their careers at the capitals Adventurers Guild.
And because those people were its customers, the guild couldnt help but profit. Seeing how it was selling consumable items inside the guild itself, I could easily guess that they were making quite a juicy profit.
As I thought over all sorts of thoughts as I put on a leather armor, picked up a coat as well as my sleeping bag and other objects that Id carried with me the first time Id left Ogwen, and then came outside, not long after Ceril, who had changed to a similar outfit as me, appeared before my eyes.
Her appearance, with a slightly lighter leather armor and greaves than mine on and iron gauntlets and a longsword hanging on her waist, was unmistakably one of an adventurer. Seemingly having minded the slowly chilling weather, she was even wearing a short cape she hadnt worn in the last several months.
Today Im going a bit farther.
And she abruptly spoke.
Just how far are you going?
I heard news that it looked like bandits were gathering at a ruin near the western winery.
Ceril tied her long hair up into a ponytail to move more comfortably and began walking, but I couldnt resolve my confusion.
If the western winery you said is that place Im thinking of, wont it take a day just to go there and back?
Thats the right place.
No wait, what about your academy?
Did I not say it? Its on vacation.
She didnt say it at all. But I did definitely have a memory of her resting about a week in early October around this time last year saying it was fall vacation. A fall vacation! Thinking about how this irritating bastard could enjoy the festival that even I, whod lived in a modern civilization, hadnt experienced, my stomach churned.
However I think about it, the academy is ripping people off way too much. We should protest for it to teach all 365 days without a single gap.
The moment you submit that sort of a protest, Ill also submit together a petition to permit servants in with us.
Youre good at studying. Dont you just feel all excited when you hear you can study for 365 days?
Ceril planted a fist into my side as if it wasnt even worth replying back.
Like that, we threw around pointless nonsenses that we were now familiar with and came outside through the mansions back door with the servants and the knights seeing us off. Although the street we came out to like that was crowded, it was a door that visitors who werent nobles regularly used when visiting, so there was no one paying attention to us coming outside in adventurers clothes.
Going by what you said before, isnt it either an extermination commission or a scouting commission?
Extermination.
Should be a pretty good experience.
Arrogant.
The fact that a critique that I was arrogant came out of her mouth meant she had the same thought as me. Simply arrogant brat.
That a 15 year-old, even though I even had the years from my last life to my age, ran a similar thought pattern as me was definitely unbelievably arrogant.
The Adventurers Guild wed arrived at after walking a long while had people swarming even in the morning. Coming to the guild at this hour in the normal week was an unfamiliar experience for me, so that crowd felt unnerving.
I didnt know there were this many adventurers in the capital.
But even Ceril had a similar thought as me. The fact that even she said it like that, even though she had history here despite all else, sounded only like something different had happened.
If it looks like that to you too, wouldnt that mean something happened?
Maybe. Might also not matter since it doesnt look like something serious when looking just at the mood.
Well yeah, it was simply loud and noisy, and there wasnt a serious mood hanging around or anything like that. Since there shouldnt be any problem if so, we decided not to pay any attention to it and went to the giant commission board where commissions were posted on.
Today as well without fail, numerous commissions were chaotically stacked and stuck together. From the commissions that guild receptionists had neatly posted to the commissions that were slanted and dirty from someone taking them down and then putting them back up, there was a mountain heap and was already a dizzying sight, but with even people teeming about, the front of the commission board was chaos itself.
.uut!
And behind that, slightly taller than 165cm Ceril, who was raising her heels to check the commission board however she could, was flailing with her best efforts.
Its an incredibly fun sight!
Just look at that bunnyhopping light-blond rabbit! That sight of her voluntarily walking into hell out of her high pride and hastiness even though she couldve asked me, who was 15cm taller and bigger than her! That sight of her only twitching her bold-font eyebrows without letting out a single angry shout at the people who were pushing her just to maintain her lofty composure! The hairy hand approaching her frantically bouncing butt eh? What?
Instantly my joyful mood flickered off, and I immediately walked up and pulled Ceril with my left hand, and grabbed with my right hand the paw of the pervert that was trying to touch the kids butt and threw it to the back.
-Kdangttang!
I couldnt even guess his age. Mid 20? Thirties? Because adventurers had both beards and coarse skin, it wasnt an easy job at all to guess their ages. But looking at his dirty shoes, equipment that werent particularly maintained very well, and the leather breastplate with not very many scratches that only gave off a hint of its age, he was definitely an unremarkable bastard. Due to the sound of him hitting chairs as he fell down being a bit loud, the eyes of the people nearby began to gather a bit.
The fuck! What the fuck are you?!
The fuck? What the fuck am I? Why are you the one saying that?
Id thought that hed run away on his own or panic if I outright threw him into the ground, but at the sight of him angrily shouting and glaring his eyes, I also unconsciously twisted my brows.
