Chapter 8: Orchestra
Chapter 8: Orchestra
POV: Azrail (MC)
As I was recovering from the mental shock of this clown having two wives, the two of them decided it was time to leave this crater. They walked over to the edges of the crater with me still on the medics back. Both men bent their knees a little and simply jumped up what seemed to be 42 feet high.
We landed swiftly without both of them making a single noise which was quite impressive. I looked over the medic's shoulder to see how many people were brought for this rescue but was only able to spot about 5. It could be more than that though considering you still could barely see within the city.
"On me." Said the captain of this squad and that's when I saw the entire team because they had lined up in a horizontal line in front of the captain. Counting everybody in total they were about 25 soldiers for this rescue which amazed me.
"We will start moving to the extract point immediately, Azrail here is injured so we will move at his pace and he will be placed next to our path finder. " Said the captain to his entire team, he was speaking in a fast tone meaning we should hurry up.
I hopped off the medic's back while giving him a glance, then proceeded to look at each member to see who the sensor was. To my surprise I saw a young man who only looked about 20 years old raising his hand and smiling like an idiot.
I walked over to him while others went into their specific positions for this walk.
"Hey man it's nice to meet you, I'm Harry and I'm the sensor of this team." Harry told me while holding his hand out to receive a handshake from me.
"Azrail." I responded back, not really knowing what to say to a man who's smiling like that then shook his hand. He had pretty soft hands which confirmed my thoughts of him being a rookie.
As Harry was about to say something the captain cut him off by giving out the order to start the walk to the extract point.
"We will start by going 500 feet forward, there will be buildings in between us since I think we are currently in a long alleyway." Stated Harry with a slightly raised voice, it seems that he's nervous.
"Roger, start the walk." The captain said and we went forward with our walk. Luckily Harry and I are in the dead center of the group, so we don't have to worry about tripping or hitting anything. All I have to do is stare at the guy in front of me and follow behind.
As we started our walk, I heard what seemed to be like a plane coming in. I didn't even enhance my hearing yet still heard the sound since it was extremely loud. I instinctively looked up at the sky forgetting that smoke and dust filled the air and then confusion filled my brain.
"That's one of our aircraft's Azrail, it will be spotting enemies for us making my job easier and also contains a very high firepower giving the enemy no chance to escape." Harry told me as were almost at the end of 500 feet.
'The only plane I was taught that had such capabilities was the AC-130 gunship, it is feared in every human nation and earned the title " The Angel of Death".
'Oh fuck then that means these guys are the special forces unit called "The Fallen Angels" why would Volestia send such a renowned rescue squad just for some kid like me?' I thought to myself as this special forces group was known for diving into the most dangerous places to save their own men.
We reached then end of the 500 feet and Harry gave us his next set of directions and then we continued the walk. My mind was currently racing, thinking of how this was possible and what kind of debt I had to pay since I knew nothing in this world was free.
"BOOOOOM" "BOOOOM" "ERRRRRRRRRRT"
The sounds of massive explosions could be heard right alongside bullets smashing into the ground sending tremors to our current location. The location that was fired upon was that close making adrenaline shoot up in my body again.
I decided to pick up our pace into a jog because of this and as soon as I did this the entire squad matched my exact pace in a single instant.
As we were jogging the sounds of that reaper made its way into my ears. The bizarre part was that I heard multiple of them coming in from different directions.
'I thought there was only one of those damn things, they have more than that!' I screamed in my head just thinking about the destruction that only one of them could cause.
My former jog now turned into a full blown sprint. A person who I once called a friend, told me when shit hits the fan you just put your head down and run for your life and that is exactly what I'm doing.
The squad yet again matched my pace perfectly with no mistakes in the path being followed. I was in a lot of pain, but I knew we had to get out of here faster since this place was going to become a blood bath.
The sounds of the reapers started to be heard which simply made me run faster and faster. The gunship in the air joined in on the dance and started to blast away as well.
I heard Harry giving out specific instructions on where enemies were located that were within their weapon range and the operators joined in on the dance. Although we were sprinting, the men in the front of the group were able to fire off pinpoint accurate shots with Harry confirming their kills.
We started to enter a rhythm within the destruction that was happening around us. This made me enter a state of extreme focus making me push my body to its limit to escape the orchestra of killing.
I have never been a part of or seen this level of orchestrated killing. The amount of precision that has to be held to even make this possible is unreal. Friendly fire is quite a scary thing in war, especially when working in an urban environment. The aircrafts haven't made a single mistake though which just shows the level of a Human superpower like Volestia.
